6 Most Affordable Cars With Dual Airbags and ABS Protection

Thanks to the Government of India’s announcement on making the car crash tests mandatory from October this year, more and more carmakers have started offering several safety features with their vehicles. For people not in the know, all the cars to be launched after October 1, 2017 will have to pass three different crash tests at a speed of 56km/h. And from October 2018, all the makers will have to necessarily offer airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS). Such initiatives have been taken to control ever-increasing road fatalities in the country.

While the new car safety norms are yet to come into effect, we tell you 6 most affordable small cars that come with dual airbags and ABS protection.

1. Maruti Suzuki Celerio LXI Optional – Rs 4.25 Lakh

Maruti Suzuki A-Star’s spiritual successor – the Celerio – is the most affordable Indian car that offers dual airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS). Interestingly, all the variants of the Celerio, including the base LXI, gets an optional safety kit that includes the aforementioned features. Powering this car is a 1.0-litre K-series engine that is good for 67bhp.

2. Maruti Suzuki Ignis Sigma Petrol – Rs 4.59 Lakh

Like most Nexa cars, the newly launched Maruti Suzuki Ignis too has dual airbags and ABS as standard safety equipment. All of its variants also get ISOFIX child seats. Though it misses out on several comfort, convenience and connectivity features since it’s the base variant of the car. This car derives its power from a 1.2-litre petrol mill mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

3. Maruti Suzuki WagonR VXi Optional – Rs 4.85 Lakh

Shocking it may sound to many, but Maruti Suzuki tops this list as well. In the list of most affordable cars with dual airbags and ABS, top three are Maruti Suzuki products. The third on the list is the WagonR VXi optional that features driver & passenger airbags and ABS. This variant costs Rs 4.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This car also has the same 1.0-litre engine that does duty in the Celerio.

4. Tata Tiago XZ Petrol – Rs 4.92 Lakh

Fourth on our list is the Tiago from Tata Motors that has been doing phenomenally well for the Indian automobile major. Besides an impressive design and several comfort, convenience and connectivity features, the Tiago also offers some advanced safety features at a competitive price. Priced at Rs 4.92 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) Tata Tiago’s top-of-the-line variant XZ comes with dual airbags and ABS + EBD. Power for the Tiago petrol comes from a peppy 1.2-litre Revotron engine that churns out a peak power of 84bhp.

5. Ford Figo Ambient ABS Petrol – Rs 5.06 Lakh

Ford Figo is the best all-round package on the list here. Besides necessary safety equipment, the Ford Figo has a great build quality as well. While the Figo Ambient ABS version comes with dual airbags and ABS, the top-of-the-line Titanium+ offers six airbags that no other car in this segment has. The Figo Ambient ABS costs Rs 5.06 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

6. Nissan Micra Active XV S Petrol – Rs 5.35 Lakh

Though not a very popular choice among buyers, the Nissan Micra Active is one of the safest B-segment hatchbacks one can buy in India today. Just so you know, the Active is nothing but the pre-facelift Micra that the company sells at a lower price. This one also has a less powerful 1.2-litre petrol engine. As against the new model’s 76bhp, this engine returns 67bhp with the Micra Active model.
