Car Sales Report September 2022 – Maruti, Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra, Kia

Last year, the automotive industry was going through tough times due to COVID-19 pandemic as well as shortage of semi-conductor chips. However, things have improved significantly and automakers have reported excellent response from buyers. Easing of semiconductor shortage and exciting new launches are the main reason behind the rising sales in the past few months. Car manufacturers have released their sales data for the month of September.

Most of the manufacturers including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Mahindra and Kia have posted positive sales growth in the month of September 2022. Here’s a detailed car sales report for manufacturers in the month of September 2022 –

Maruti Suzuki – 135% Sales Growth

Maruti Suzuki has reported a total sale of 176,306 units (Domestic PV + OEM Supply + Export) in September 2022 as against 86,380 units in the same month last year. In the domestic market, the company delivered 148,380 units last month as against 63,111 units in September 2022, reporting a yoy sales growth of 135%. The company delivered 4,018 vehicles to its OEM partner and exported 21,403 units last month.

Maruti Suzuki sold 29,574 units of the Alto and the S-Presso in September 2022 as against 14,936 units in the same month last year. The compact segment comprising of Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S and Wagon R accounted for 72,156 units of total domestic PV sales. The company also sold 1,359 units of the Ciaz last month. In the utility vehicle segment (Brezza, Ertiga, S-Cross, XL6 and the Grand Vitara), MSIL sold 32,574 units in September 2022 as against 18,459 units in the same month last year. Maruti Suzuki has also reported 12,697 units of the Eeco vans last month.

Hyundai – 50% Sales Growth

Hyundai Motor India has reported a total sale of 63,201 units in September 2022 as against 45,791 units, reporting a year-on-year sales growth of 38%. In the domestic market, Hyundai Motor India sold 49,700 vehicles in September 2022 as against 33,087 units in the same month last year. The company reported a year-on-year sales growth of 50.2%. The company also exported 13,501 units last month.

Tata Motors – 85% Sales Growth

Tata Motors has reported a massive sales growth in the month of September 2022. The company sold 47,654 passenger cars in September 2022 as against 25,730 units in the same month last year. It reported a year-on-year sales growth of 85 percent. The company sold 43,999 ICE vehicle as against 24,652 units in September 2022 and 2021 respectively. Tata also delivered 3,655 electric vehicles last month as against 1,078 units in September 2021. In the EV segment, the company reported a year-on-year sales growth of 239%. 

Mahindra – 163% Sales Growth

Mahindra & Mahindra has reported its highest ever sales in a single month in the country. The company reported a total sale of 34,508 units as against 12,863 units in the same month last year. The company reported a year-on-year sales growth of 163 per cent. The company has also started deliveries of the new Scorpio N in the country. Mahindra is also preparing to launch a wide range of new vehicles including the XUV400 EV, XUV300 facelift, Thar 5-door and the Bolero Neo Plus.

Kia – 79.1% Sales Growth

Kia India has reported a cumulative domestic sale of 25,857 units in the month of September 2022 as against 14,441 units in the same month last year. The company reported a year-on-year sales growth of 79.1 percent. This has been the highest month sales for the Korean automaker in the country. Kia sold 11,000 units of Seltos SUV in September 2022 as against 9,583 units in the same month last year. The company also sold 9,291 units of Sonet, 5,233 units of Carens and 333 units of Carnival last month.

Toyota – 66% Sales Growth

TKM (Toyota Kirloskar Motor) company has sold a total of 15,378 units in the month of September 2022 thereby registering a growth of 66% over wholesales in September 2021. The company had sold 9284 units in the month of September 2021. Cumulative wholesales in the period of April to September 2022, has witnessed a phenomenal growth of 68% when compared to the corresponding period last year, further strengthening TKM’s sales-trajectory.

Honda – 29% Sales Growth

Japanese automaker, Honda sold 8,714 cars in the month of September 2022, reporting a year-on-year sales growth of 29 per cent. The company had delivered 6,765 units in the same month last year.
