BYD Atto 3 Bags 5 Star Crash Test Safety Rating – EURO NCAP

Chinese automaker, BYD or Build Your Dreams has presented the new BYD Atto 3 electric SUV for the Indian market. Interested buyers can book the new BYD Atto 3 electric SUV online or at authorised dealerships by paying a token amount of Rs 50,000. Prices of the new model will be released in November 2022, while deliveries will be commenced in early next year.

The BYD Atto 3 electric SUV has received an impressive 5-star safety ratings in Euro NCAP crash tests. The crash test rating is applicable for both left-hand drive and right-hand drive variants. The Euro NCAP has tested the base Active variant of the BYD Atto 3. As standard, the new model comes with 7 airbags, seat belt pretensioners, ISOFIX anchorages, and ADAS features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, speed assist system, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and others.

With 91 percent rating, the BYD Atto e-SUV scored 34.7 points out of a possible 38 points. The electric SUV offers good or adequate protection to driver & co-passenger in the frontal deformable offset barrer & full-width rigid barrier tests. The Atto 3 received maximum points in the side impact test. During severe side pole test, the electric SUV offered weak protection to the driver’s chest area.

The BYD Atto 3 received maximum points for both the frontal and side barrier impact tests for child occupancy protection. The front passenger airbag can be disabled to fix rearward-facing child restraint in the seating position. The Atto 3 misses out on an integrated child restraint system. It scored a total of 44 out of 49 points (89 percent) in child protection test.

In the pedestrian protection, the Atto 3 scored 69 percent or 37.5 out of 72 points. The bonnet provides adequate protection to pedestrians’ heads, while the bumper offered good protection to pedestrians’ legs. However, the protection of the pelvis region was rated poor. The autonomous emergency braking and lane support system of the electric SUV performed well in most test scenarios. It scored 74 percent or 12 out of 16 points in safety assist systems.

Based on the e 3.0 platform, the new BYD Atto 3 will come via SKD route and assembled at the brand’s Sriperumbudur based plant near Chennai. The India-spec model is fitted with a 60kWh BYD Blade battery that is claimed to offer an ARAI certified range of 521km on a single charge. The permanent synchronous electric motor offers 201bhp and 310Nm of torque. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in 7.3 seconds. With DC fast charger, the battery can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in 50 minutes.
