Sedans have been one of the most preferred cars for Indian car buyers. A sedan comes with a three box shape, offering spacious cabin for both front and rear occupants. In order to mark strong presence in the highly competitive sedan space, car manufacturers are planning to launch new sedans as well as refreshed versions of existing cars in the country. Here we bring you a list of upcoming sedan cars in India in 2016, 2017.
Buoyed by positive response for Tiago, Tata Motors is now ready to launch an all-new sub-compact sedan – Codenamed Kite 5. Based on modified XO platform that also underpins Tata Tiago, the small sedan will be positioned below the Zest compact sedan. It is expected to be the cheapest sedan in the country. Unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo in pre-production form, the compact sedan will replace the ageing Indigo eCS. The sedan will come with two engine options – 1.2-litre Revotron petrol and 1.05-litre 3-cylinder diesel. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT.
Expected Price- Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5.5 lakh

Competition – Chevrolet Essentia, Maruti Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze
At the 2016 Auto Expo, General Motors had unveiled the new Beat, Beat Activ and Essentia compact sedan. The Essentia compact sedan is based on the Beat platform, which will be positioned below the Sail sedan. It will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. While the petrol version will get a 1.2-litre SMARTECH unit, the oil burner is a 1.0-litre unit. Power will be transmitted to front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Seeing the growing competition in mid-sized sedan segment, Honda Car India is planning to launch the updated City sedan in the country. Launched in 2014, the current generation model is one of the best-selling sedan cars in India. The company has already started working on the new City, which is likely to take its design inspiration from Greiz sedan (Chinese Model). Codenamed 2GC, the sedan will see significant exterior and interior changes along with a few mechanical changes. The new City will be powered by the same 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic.
Expected Price – Rs 8.5 lakh to Rs 13 lakh
