BS6 Toyota Innova Crysta 2.8L Diesel Is Not Coming

BS6 Toyota Innova Crysta

In January 2020, the Japanese carmaker rolled out the BS6 Toyota Innova Crysta at a special celebratory price of Rs 15.36 lakh (ex-showroom). The updated model comes with the BS6-compliant 2.4L diesel and 2.7L petrol engine options. The more powerful 2.8L diesel powertrain was removed from the MPV lineup.

Speaking to Autocar, Naveen Soni, Senior Vice President, Sales and Service, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, has confirmed that the 2.8L diesel engine won’t be reintroduced on the Innova Crysta. The MPV will continue to be offered with a single diesel engine. The reason behind this decision was the higher demand of the small capacity oil burner.

The carmaker has upgraded the 2.4L diesel motor with a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) and a SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) that help reduce its emission levels. It comes with a 5-speed manual and an optional 6-speed automatic gearbox option. At present, the BS6 Toyota Innova Crysta petrol variants are available in the price range of Rs 15.36 lakh – Rs 23.02 lakh. The diesel models, on the other hand, are priced from Rs 16.14 lakh to Rs 23.02 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.

Recently, the company introduced the Toyota Innova Crysta Leadership Edition at Rs 21.21 lakh (ex-showroom). It’s a dual-tone model based on the VX variant. This special edition comes in two dual-tone colour schemes – White Pearl & Black and Wildfire Red & Black. It has been offered with the 150bhp, 2.4L diesel engine only.

Toyota is also planning to give a mid-life to the Innova Crysta during this year’s festive season. The MPV’s updated model is likely to carry the existing engine setup along with minor changes inside and out. The 2020 Toyota Innova Crysta facelift might get the revised front and rear profile. Interior is likely to be revised with an updated infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity along with a pack of new features.
