Powering the BS6 Mahindra XUV500 is a 2.2L mHawk diesel engine that has been updated with the DPF (diesel particulate filter), SCR (selective catalytic reduction) and a 2-way oxidation catalyst. The motor has also been benefited with the new-generation electronically controlled variable geometry turbocharger. The oil burner pushes out a peak power of 140bhp and 360Nm of torque. The automatic variants get the Aisin-sourced 6-speed torque converter transmission. The unit offers a sequential manual mode and a creep function.
The XUV500 model lineup can also be had with a 6-speed manual gearbox. There are four manual variants – W5, W7, W9 and W11 (O) – priced from Rs 13.10 lakh to Rs 17.54 lakh (all, ex-showroom). The carmaker recently increased prices of the BS6 Mahindra XUV500 by up to Rs 16,000.
The home-grown carmaker has already confirmed the new-generation Mahindra XUV500 for the early next year. The SUV’s new model will witness comprehensive changes inside and out. In fact, the model lineup will receive new 2.0L petrol engine and a more powerful diesel motor with manual and automatic gearbox options. While the new gasoline unit will deliver power close to 190bhp with 380Nm, the oil burner will be good enough for 180bhp. Reports suggest that the 2021 Mahindra XUV500 and Scorpio SUVs will be sold alongside their current generation models.
