BMW India has finally launched the highly rated i8 plug-in hybrid sportscar in the country at a whooping Rs. 2.29 crore, Pan-India. Unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show in presence of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, the BMW i8 will be branded as the company’s flagship product in the market.

The BMW i8 supercar features a low slung body design with large hood and squat rear profile. It is blessed with flat twin kidney grille which is flanked by an oblong-shaped full LED headlights, wide air-intakes, unique and aerodynamically enhanced wing positioned right below the headlamps. The car features scissor doors which opens upwards, specially designed alloy wheels and aerodynamic creases. The i8 has uniquely designed tail lamps, wide rear bumper and flared wheel arches.

The BMW i8 interiors are loaded with lots of gizmos and digital button. It is equipped with a 10-inch display to interact with BMW’s iDrive system. Other features include leather seats, chrome plastic on centre console, gear-shift lever, start/stop button and parking brake.

Under the bonnet is the 1.5-litre three-cylinder twin scroll turbo engine that develops 231bhp and a peak torque of 320Nm. Power is transmitted to rear wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission gearbox. Its front wheels are coupled to an electric motor via a two-stage automatic box, which is capable of developing 131bhp and is coupled to 5kWh lithium-ion battery. The combined power output is 362bhp and 570N of torque. This sedan accelerates to 100kmph from standstill in just 4.4 seconds.
