MG Motor, the British car manufacturer owned by China based SAIC Corp, had announced that it will begin its India innings in the second quarter of 2019. The company aims to launch one new product every year in the country. The carmaker has already taken over General Motors’ Halol plant and revamped it with an initial investment of Rs 2,000 crore. The British carmaker also confirmed that it will mark its entry with a premium compact SUV that will go up against the Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Tucson. We have informed you earlier that MG might bring in the Shanghai Automotive owned new Baojun 530 SUV in India. Though there is no official confirmation, the recent sighting verifies the media report.
The Baojun 530 is the third addition to the Baojun lineup that broke cover at the 2017 Auto Guangzhou in China. Reports suggest that the India-spec Baojun 530 will be re-engineered for our market. Unlike the MG models, this SUV will feature a differently designed grille and bumpers. The global-spec 530 has LED headlamps inspired by Baojun 510, aggressive air intakes, bold character lines beneath the waistline and one-piece taillamps. Check Out – Upcoming MG Cars in India
Compared to the Jeep Compass, the Baojun 530 will be bigger in size. It measures 4,655mm in length, 1,835mm in width and 1,760mm in height with a 2,750 mm wheelbase. Globally, the SUV comes with a 1.8L and a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engines. The India-bound model might come with the Fiat-sourced 2.0L Multijet II diesel motor that also powers the Jeep Compass.
