India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki will launch the Baleno facelift in the country before the end of this financial year. The updated model will receive several cosmetic as well as feature upgrades. Adding to it, the hatchback could also receive a new diesel engine.
Previous media reports claim that the production of the Baleno facelift is likely to be commenced from September 2018. This report further suggests that the updated model will ditch the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine. If media reports are to be believed, Maruti Suzuki is developing a new 1.5-litre diesel engine to power its future models.
Our sources suggest that Toyota could help Maruti Suzuki to develop new diesel engine to power future models. We informed you earlier that Toyota will provide its high-end cars including Corolla to Maruti. Adding to it, Maruti will supply Vitara Brezza and Baleno to Toyota in India. The outgoing model uses Fiat’s 1.3-litre MJD diesel engine, which complies with BSIV regulations. This engine will require an upgrade for new BSVI norms, which will come into effect in early 2020. Fiat has decided not to make an investment for this engine upgrade. We believe that Toyota could provide its diesel powertrains to Maruti. The Maruti Baleno, which was launched in October 2015, is currently the best-selling model in its category. This hatchback will soon complete its three successful years in the country, and is set to receive minor aesthetic and feature upgrades. Some of the design highlights will include LED projector headlights, revised front grille and bumper, new alloys, new upholstery and updated infotainment system with smartphone connectivity.
