Bajaj To Launch Husqvarna Motorcycles In India Next Year

The announcement has been made at the company’s annual general meeting (AGM) in Pune.

Rajiv Bajaj, MD of Bajaj Auto has confirmed that Bajaj Auto will introduce Husqvarna Motorcycles in India in the next fiscal year (FY2019-20). The announcement has been made at the company’s annual general meeting (AGM) in Pune. The Austria-based bike maker will mark its entry with the Vitpilen café racer and the Svartpilen scrambler.

Besides this, the home-grown two-wheeler manufacturer aims to foray into electric vehicle segment by 2020. The Bajaj electric bikes and scooters will be retailed under a new sub-brand – Bajaj Urbanite. The new electric sub-brand will focus on the premium products. The bikemaker also aims to be the world’s largest premium motorcycle maker in the next 5 to 10 years.

Bajaj Auto will also partner with Triumph to develop a 500cc, single-cylinder motorcycle that might hit showrooms in 2020. Both the brands will share their individual expertise and share knowledge and investment for developing better products. The home-grown bikemaker also reveals that the company aims to produce 5 lakh premium bikes under the KTM and Husqvarna brands at its Chakan based facility in Pune.

The company has also released its Q1 FY2019 results marking its highest ever sales (1,226,641 units), turnover (Rs 7,824 crore) and profit (Rs 1,616 crore before tax). The bikemaker registered total sales of 594,234 units in the domestic market, accounting year-on-year growth up to 39 percent. In the domestic market, Bajaj’s share has increased to 16.3 percent in Q1 FY19 from 14 percent in Q1 FY18. The Bajaj Platina and CT 100 motorcycle range emerged as the major sales contributors. In the first quarter of this fiscal year, the former registered sales of 104,000 units with 35 percent growth and the latter one recorded 190,000 units with 76 percent growth.
