German luxury carmaker Audi has finally launched the much awaited Audi A3 sedan in the Indian car market. The Audi A3 sedan is the cheapest Audi in India and is priced at Rs. 22.95 (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The diesel version is available in four variants, while the petrol model is available in single variant; priced at Rs. 28.95 lakh. Audi A3 sedan four variants are Attraction, Premium, Premium Plus and Technology out of which, the Premium Plus is the petrol version.
Audi India is offering the A3 sedan in both petrol and diesel fuel options- 35TDI and the 40TFSI; a new nomenclatures from the company. The A3 35TDI is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that churns out a maximum power output of 143bhp and a peak torque of 320Nm. This engine is paired to a six-speed S-Tronic transmission which sends the power to front wheels of the sedan. On the other hand, the A3 40TFSI is the petrol model and is propelled by a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is capable of producing 180bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to front wheels via a seven-speed S-Tronic gearbox.
The oil burner is claimed to reach 0-100kmph in mere 8.6 seconds, while the A3 sedan petrol accelerates to 100kmph from zero in just 7.3 seconds. When it comes to efficiency, the 2.0L TDI motor is claimed to return an excellent ARAI certified fuel economy of 20.38kmpl and the petrol A3 delivers an impressive mileage of 16.6kmpl.
Audi A3 sedan measures 4456mm in length, 1796mm in width and 1415mm in height, and it has a large wheelbase of 2637mm. Its large wheelbase result into spacious cabin. The smaller turning radius of 5.2 metres and a good ground clearance of 160mm make it a perfect sedan to drive through busy Indian streets. It offers an excellent boot space of 425-litres which is more than sufficient to accommodate 4 suitcases. The luggage can be further extended to 880-litres by folding the rear seats. The A3 can easily accommodate 4 adults, thanks to an impressive legroom, headroom and shoulder space.
The Audi A3 sedan is loaded with several high end features including MMI navigation plus with MMI touch, 7-inch retractable display, rear parking camera, dual-zone automatic climate control, LED interior lighting, electrically adjustable front seats, Milano leather upholstery, etc. Interestingly, the base variant too is loaded with all the features that are accessible in top-spec S line model; however, it lacks navigation. The Audi A3 sedan is equipped with several advanced safety and security features including seven airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System with Electronic Brake-Force Distribution and Brake Assist.
