American automaker Audi has introduced the A3 sedan at the ongoing 2014 Beijing Auto Show. This model will also make its way to the Indian car market by the mid-2014.  Promoted as ‘A3 Limousine’ in China, the vehicle is offered in two variants which are tagged at 279,800 Yuan (around Rs. 27 lakh) and 334,300 Yuan (around Rs. 32 lakh).

The Audi A3 sedan was unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, and is all set to hit the Indian car market. Measuring 4,310mm in length, 1,966mm in width, 1,425mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,626mm, the Audi A3 sedan will be the cheapest Audi in the Indian car market.

Powering the vehicle is the EA888 1.8 TFSI engine that is capable of developing a maximum power output of 180bhp and top torque of 250Nm. For Indian buyers, it will be offered in both petrol and diesel guise. While the gasoline version will get the 1.8-litre TFSI unit that develops 168bhp and 320Nm of torque, the oil burner will house the 2.0-litre TDI motor producing 150bhp and 320Nm of torque. Both the engines will be coupled to seven-speed DSG gearbox, which drives the power to front wheels of the car.

For the Indian buyers, the Audi will also introduce a stripped down version of the A3, just like Audi Q3 S, to offer a cheaper option. It will be assembled at Audi’s manufacturing unit in Aurangabad plant. It will directly compete against the Mercedes-Benz CLA which is scheduled to be launched by 2014-15.
