After receiving an excellent response for Audi A3 sedan, the German luxury carmaker is now aiming to launch the A3 hatchback in the country. Audi India managed to sell around 1000 units of the A3 saloon within 3 months of its launch. Already on sale in several international markets, the A3 hatch will go on sale in the country in 2015. Adding to it, the company is also contemplating the A3 Cabriolet which was showcased at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show alongside its sedan sibling.
The Audi A3 hatchback will directly rival against the likes of Mercedes-Benz A-Class and BMW 1 Series. Powering the vehicle is the 1.8-litre TFSI petrol unit that is good for 180PS and 250Nm of top torque. The oil burner is the 2.0-litre TDI unit producing 142bhp and 320Nm of torque. While the petrol version does 0-100kmph in just 7.8 seconds, the oil burner takes 8.9 seconds to reach 0-100kmph.
It is expected to be the cheapest car from the Ingolstadt based manufacturer in the Indian car market. The sedan version of the A3 is tagged at Rs. 22.95 lakh, and we expect that the hatchback model would cost around Rs. 20-22 lakh. Audi India is also planning to launch a series of new products including Q3 crossover facelift, next Q7 and A4, and 2015 Audi TT Coupe.
