All-new Skoda Fabia Hatchback in the Works!
Skoda had introduced the current generation Fabia hatchback in the international markets in 2014. The company has already started working on the next generation model, which was expected to be introduced in 2021-22. A new media report suggests that Skoda has fast-tracked the development of new Fabia for an early 2021 debut.
The current generation Fabia is based on the older PQ26 platform with some bits from the MQB platform. The next gen Skoda Fabia will be based on the MQB AO platform, which underpins the Volkswagen Polo, T-Cross and the Skoda Kamiq. Thanks to the new platform, the next Fabia will look drastically different from the current model. It is expected to feature aggressive styling along with significantly altered dimensions.
The cabin is expected to source some of the design elements from the Kamiq compact SUV. It is likely to receive several high-end comfort and convenience features like Skoda’s MIB 3.0 infotainment system along with multiple touchscreen size options ranging from 6.5-inch to 9.2-inch.
The next generation Skoda Fabia is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine that offers power outputs ranging from 94PS to 114PS. The range-topping model could get a 1.5-litre TSI engine that also powers the Kamiq. A mild hybrid version of the hatchback is also likely to be on offer.
It is quite early to comment whether the next gen Skoda Fabia will arrive in our market or not. The company had discontinued the hatchback in 2013. If the new Fabia arrives in our market, it will be developed on the MQB AO IN platform. Skoda India is busy preparing for the upcoming 2020 Auto Expo. The company will showcase the Karoq, Kamiq, Superb facelift, Octavia RS245 and others.
