We informed you earlier that Nissan is working on the next-generation Sunny sedan, which will make global debut this year. In India, the new model is expected to be launched in 2020. The company has started testing the next-gen Sunny sedan. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Honda City and the Suzuki Ciaz.

The all-new Nissan Sunny design will be inspired by the Nissan Lannia sedan concept. A production-spec Lannia sedan is already on sale in the Chinese market. Besides sharing some of the design highlights with the Chinese sibling, the new Sunny will come with a conventional rear door and boot design.

Going by the spy images available on the internet, it is visible that the sedan gets elegant profile featuring a large signature V-motion grille. The grille is flanked by sharp headlights that merge well with the chrome grille outline. It features a large glasshouse with a larger rear door. The sedan gets a floating roof design, which gels well with the overall styling.

Similar to the previous Sunny, the next-gen model will be over 600mm longer than the current-gen Micra. It is expected to come with a wheelbase of 2,700mm, which is around 175mm more than that of the Micra. The sedan will offer spacious cabin with enhanced legroom and shoulder space for both front and rear occupants.

The new Nissan Micra will be based on the updated version of the V-platform that also underpins the global Kicks SUV and the Note hatchback. Just to inform you, the India-spec Nissan Kicks is based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s MO platform that also underpins the Duster and the Captur.

The interior of the new sedan will be shared with the Nissan Kicks and Micra hatchback. Features like seats, dashboard, steering wheel, buttons and touchscreen infotainment will be sourced from the sibling SUV. The global model is expected to be powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine that is likely to produce around 111bhp of power.
