All-New Mitsubishi Outlander Coming In February 2021 – 5 Facts

We informed you earlier that Mitsubishi will launch the next-generation Outlander SUV in the 2021. Now, the company has officially announced that the all-new Mitsubishi Outlander will go on sale in global markets in February 2021. In fact, first teaser image of the new SUV has also been released by the automaker.

Launch Timeline

Mitsubishi has officially announced that the new Outlander will debut first in the U.S.,Canada and Puerto Rico in February 2021, and follow soon-after in other international markets. It was speculated that Mitsubishi might launch the next-gen Outlander along with the Eclipse Cross and the Xpander MPV in India. However, Mitsubishi is yet to make an official announcement on the same.

Design Inspired By Engelberg Tourer Concept

The teaser and spy images confirm that the new-gen all-new Mitsubishi Outlander will be inspired by the Engelberg Tourer concept. In fact, the clear uncamouflaged images reveal that the new Outlander is the production version of the concept. The SUV debuts the new front grille and revised headlamps, but it retains the double optical assembly scheme which we have already seen on the Eclipse Cross.

Nissan X-Trail’s Platform

The new-generation Mitsubishi Outlander will be based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-C/D platform, which also underpins the X-Trail. Adding to it, the SUV will also share the Nissan’s engine. By sourcing the platform and engine from Nissan, Mitsubishi will aim to save cost of development of the new model.

The new generation Outlander is rumoured to grow in size. The brand will position the new SUV as the largest model in the medium SUV market. The new model will be loaded with several high-end comfort and convenience features.

What’s Under The Hood?

The next-gen Mitsubishi Outlander will source the 2.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine from Nissan’s X-Trail. Adding to it, the SUV is reportedly to get PHEV technology with a 2,400cc engine, battery, 2 electric motors and AWD system that offers a range of more than 600km. Other media reports claim that Nissan could also borrow Mitsubishi’s PHEV technology to make the X-Trail PHEV. This could be the part of Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance to achieve cost reduction strategy by sharing platforms and engines.
