next-gen Mahindra XUV700

It was speculated that Mahindra will showcase the next-gen Thar at the Auto Expo 2020; however, media reports claim that Mahindra will introduce the new Thar model at a separate event. The company has officially announced to unveil 18 new vehicles at the biennial event, including 4 electric models. What’s interesting is that Mahindra will also showcase the next-gen XUV500 electric at the Auto Show.

  • The new Mahindra XUV500 will be launched in the second half of 2020, around Diwali.
  • It will receive new BS6 2.0-litre turbo diesel and turbo petrol engines.
  • The SUV will grow in size and will offer improved legroom for rear occupants.
  • The new Mahindra XUV500 EV concept will debut at the 2020 Auto Expo.

Mahindra will also preview the next-gen XUV500 concept model. The all-new Mahindra XUV500 is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2020, most probably around Diwali. It will be based on the new monocoque front-wheel-drive platform, which will also underpin the Ford C-SUV. The Ford C-SUV is jointly developed by Mahindra-Ford JV, and is likely to arrive in 2020-21.

BS6 Mahindra XUV500 Variants

Mahindra has also teased the new XUV500 EV ahead of its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. Apart from the XUV500 EV, the company will also showcase the production-ready XUV300 EV, eKUV100 and the Atom quadricycle. What’s interesting is that Mahindra could also unveil the next-gen Scorpio SUV, which has already been spotted multiple times during its test rounds.

Going by the spy images, it is visible that the SUV will retain the original design. However, the design elements and body panels will be all-new. Adding to it, the SUV will grow in size and will ride on longer wheelbase. The interior spy images reveal a flatter dashboard with soft-touch materials, a large floating touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, a part-digital instrument console and a large MID, and all-new D-cut steering wheel.

The material quality and fit and finish will be improved, and the front-seats are likely to receive ventilation and power-adjustable functions. The second-row seats are likely to come with sliding function. Thanks to the increased wheelbase, the third-row seats are likely to offer between kneeroom and legroom support.

The 2020 Mahindra XUV500 will receive a new BS6 compliant 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which is likely to produce around 180bhp of power. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer. Adding to it, the new model will also receive a BS6 turbocharged petrol engine.
