All-New Mahindra XUV500, Scorpio Launch In 2021 – Details Here
Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to revive its existing SUV lineup with their new-generation models including XUV500, Scorpio, Thar and Bolero. In fact, we have seen multiple spy pictures of these models. Speaking to an online media publication, Dr Pawan Goenka, Managing Director of Mahindra has confirmed that the new-generation Mahindra XUV500 will hit roads in early 2021 and the all-new Scorpio will come around May 2021.
Talking about the new Mahindra XUV500, the SUV’s design is like to be inspired by the Funster concept that broke cover at the 2020 Auto Expo. Based on an all-new platform, the SUV will witness noticeable design changes including a more upright and wide front grille, slightly smaller headlamps and revised front fender. The new XUV500 will ditch the existing ‘cheetah claw’ door handles for flush fitting units.
Comprehensive changes continue inside the cabin. The new Mahindra XUV500 will get a flat-bottomed steering wheel, a newly-designed dashboard, a new dual-pd instrument cluster and a floating infotainment system. Read – All-New Mahindra Thar Launch Details Revealed
Powering the SUV will be a more powerful 180bhp, 2.2L, 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine that will be compliant to BS6 emission norms. The motor will feature a SCR (selective catalytic reduction) and a DPF (diesel particulate filter). The SUV will get Mahindra’s mStallion 2.0L petrol engine as well. Similar to the existing model, it will come with a 6-speed manual and a torque converter automatic gearbox.
The new Mahindra Scorpio will use a BS6-ready new 2.0L petrol engine and a 2.0L diesel motor pushing out a top power of 170bhp against 400Nm of torque. Initially, it’s likely to be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox. While the new Scorpio will be conceptualized and designed at Mahindra’s North American Technical Centre in Detroit, United States, it will be engineered and developed at the Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai.
Some of its key changes will include revised front grille and bumper, an upright nose, larger doors, longer wheelbase, sharply raked front windshield, a large touchscreen infotainment system (could be borrowed from Alturas G4), forward facing seats in all variants and several Marazzo inspired components.
