All-New Mahindra Thar to be Launched in March-April 2020

Homegrown automaker, Mahindra is planning to launch 3 new SUVs in the Indian market before the end of this year. The company will launch the next-gen Thar, Scorpio and the XUV500 in 2020. A new media report claims that the new generation Mahindra Thar is likely to be launched by March-end or April, 2020. In fact, technical training of the new Thar at dealerships has also been started.

The report further claims that the next-gen Mahindra Thar will be made available in 6 or 7 variants with either a Soft top or Hard top. The SUV is also expected to receive an automatic transmission option. The new model will receive comprehensive design changes, new platform, new engine line-up and feature-loaded cabin. The 2020 Mahindra Thar lifestyle SUV will be based on the new GEN3 platform, which underpins the current-gen Scorpio SUV. The new model will be compliant with the new safety standards along with the upcoming pedestrian norms. Going by the spy images, it is visible that the new Thar will be grow in size, and will be wider than the outgoing model.

The spy images of the Next-gen Mahindra Thar will have the trademark Mahindra seven-slat grille, circular headlamps, flared wheel arches, new LED tail-lamp, a factory-fitted hard-top variant and five-spoke alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, the new Thar will receive a new twin-dial instrument console with an MID in the centre. The lifestyle SUV will also receive remote locking and front power windows. Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, seat-belt reminder, central locking and speed alert will come as standard.

The 2020 Mahindra Thar will be powered by an all-new 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which is likely to produce around 140bhp and over 400Nm of torque. The off-roader could also receive the 2.0L 4-cylinder, mStallion petrol engine, which produces 190PS of power and 380Nm of torque.
