All-New Mahindra Scorpio Will Be More Powerful Than Tata Harrier

The next-gen Mahindra Scorpio will be launched in 2020.

We informed you earlier that Mahindra will launch the next-gen XUV500, Scorpio and Thar in the next 18 months. The company is also preparing a new BSVI compliant 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine to power these SUVs. This engine is claimed to offer 3 states of tunes – 140bhp, 150bhp and 185bhp. The next-gen Scorpio is scheduled to be launched in 2020, while official debut could take place at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The outgoing Mahindra Scorpio is powered by a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that offers two states of tunes – 120bhp and 140bhp. The next model will receive the new 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that is reportedly to produce 160bhp of power. This 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine will be cleaner and more powerful engine, but it will increase the cost of the next-gen Scorpio. The next gen model will be based on the modified version of the body-on-ladder frame, which will also underpin the new Thar and Bolero SUVs. Compared to the recently launched Tata Harrier, the next-gen Scorpio will be around 10bhp more powerful. The Harrier is powered by a 140bhp, 2.0-litre KRYOTEC turbo-diesel engine.

The next-gen Scorpio is also expected to receive a petrol engine. It is likely to get a new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which can be tuned to offer up to 217PS of maximum power. The all-new Scorpio will come with an all-new design. It is likely to be designed by Mahindra’s design house with the help of Mahindra owned Italian design house – Pininfarina.
