Homegrown UV maker, Mahindra is planning to launch a range of new utility vehicles in the next 2-3 years. Not just all-new models, the company will also give a new life to its popular SUVs currently on sale in the market. Most of the old Mahindra SUVs won’t meet the upcoming crash test norms and will require major makeover to continue in the market. Moreover, BSVI emission norms will kick in from April 2020. The new models will be safer and will have new BSVI compliant engines. Here we bring you four popular Mahindra SUVs, which will receive new generation models in India by 2020.
– Mahindra Thar
The homegrown automaker has already started working on the next-gen Mahindra Thar. It will be based on an all-new platform and will be marginally longer than the current model. The new platform will also be used to develop other SUVs, though Thar will be the first model to use the new architecture. If media reports are to be believed, Mahindra is planning to make the next Thar a ‘cult’ brand. The next Thar is expected to be more refined and more capable on the highway. Adding to it, it will be powered by a BS-VI compliant diesel engine.

– Mahindra Scorpio
The homegrown automaker will launch the new-generation Scorpio SUV in India by 2020. It will get an all-new design and many segment first and modern features. The SUV will look more aggressive with SUV stance and will rival the Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass. The premium SUV will launch as soon as the BS-VI emission norms kick in. Adding to it, the next-gen Scorpio SUV will be designed with the help of Mahindra owned design firm Pininfarina. Moreover, the next Scorpio will be more powerful, safe and will have premium interiors.

– Mahindra XUV500
The company’s popular urban SUV – XUV500 will receive a new-generation model in 2020. The new model will be based on an all-new platform, which will be safer and lighter. This platform will also be used by Ford to develop a new premium SUV. It will get several-segment leading features and premium interior. Mahindra will offer multiple engine options on the updated modelincluding turbocharged petrol, turbocharged diesel and electric motor. All new petrol and diesel powertrains will be developed jointly by Mahindra and Ssangyong.

– Mahindra Bolero
Mahindra’s most popular SUV in semi-urban and rural India – Bolero – will definitely receive a new-gen model in early 2020. The current model will not meet the upcoming crash test norms and will require a better structure to continue sale. The new model is expected to share platform with the next-gen Thar. Expect new Bolero to carry forward the same strong boxy design. However, the cabin space will be improved and expect more modern features as well.
