All-New Kia MPV To Be Based On Seltos Platform; Launch In Early 2022

We informed you earlier that Kia Motors is working on an all-new mid-sized MPV, which will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Mahindra Marazzo. A new media report claims that the all-new Kia MPV is expected to be launched in early 2022. It will be offered with both petrol and diesel engines.

Seltos Platform

The upcoming all-new Kia MPV will be based on the Seltos platform, which also underpins the new-gen Hyundai Creta. This platform is compatible enough to accommodate different body sizes including a 7-seater SUV and the MPV. In fact, Hyundai has started testing the 7-seater Creta on the Indian roads.

Could Measure Around 4.5 Meters

The report claims that the all-new Kia MPV will be positioned between the Maruti Ertiga and the Toyota Innova. In terms of dimensions, the MPV could measure around 4.5 meters in length which is similar to the Mahindra Marazzo. At this proportions, the new MPV is expected to offer decent space for seven adults. The MPV will have Kia’s latest design language, featuring the signature ‘Tiger Nose’ grille and sharp headlamps.

Similarity With Seltos

The new MPV is expected to be equipped with several segment-leading features. In fact, the MPV is likely to share most of the features from the new Kia Sonet and the Seltos. In terms of features, the upcoming Kia’s mid-sized SUV gets rear view camera, smartphone connectivity, alloy wheels, LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps), cruise control, push-button start, etc. The MPV is also expected to receive Kia’s UVO Connect connected car tech, sunroof, ventilated front seats, 360 degree camera, air purifier with virus protection, blind-spot monitor and head-up display.

What’s Under The Bonnet?

The new MPV is expected to be offered with two engine options – a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel. While the former is good for 113bhp of power and 144Nm of torque, the oil burner produces 113bhp and 250Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer.
