The next-gen Hyundai i40 will share several features and components from the Sonata facelift, which is currently on testing in the US.

Hyundai i40, a popular mid-sized sedan from the Korean automaker, is all set to enter new generation sometime next year. The current model is around 8 years old and is facing stiff competition from the likes of Volkswagen Passat, Ford Mondeo, Skoda Superb and Open Insignia. The new i40 was first spotted testing with the current body in August 2017. Now, the sedan has been caught testing with a drastically changed shape.

The next-gen i40 test mules suggest a sleek and elegant sedan, similar to the VW Arteon and the Peugeot 508. The spotted model was wearing the full production body and headlights, while the taillights are different and misses out on some of the elements. It is quite early to comment whether the next generation i40 will continue with the sedan body style or it will continue as a more practical liftback. The pictures suggest that the next i40 will be a premium, sleeker and elegant sedan. Also See – Upcoming Hyundai Cars

Going by the spy images, it is visible that the next-gen i40 will share several features and components from the Sonata facelift, which is currently on testing in the US. The new i40 could be the European version of the Sonata facelift, as both models looks quite similar in terms of design highlights, shape and size. It would be easier for Hyundai to sell one car with different nameplates in different countries. This will save money and development process as Hyundai would only require slight tweaking of Sonata to introduce a European-friendly i40. Also See – Hyundai i30 Hatchback Spotted Testing In India

The new Hyundai i40 sedan design inspiration comes from the Le Fil Rouge concept model, which was unveiled in March at the Geneva Motor Show. This concept previews Hyundai’s next design language, which could be offered on the i40.
