Hyundai had launched the current generation Elite i20 hatchback in 2014. The hatchback received a mid-cycle facelift in 2017. We informed you earlier that Hyundai has started working on the next-gen model. If latest media report is to be believed, the new i20 will go on sale in mid-2020. The new model will arrive soon after the implementation of BS6 emission norms in April 2020.
The next i20 will come with a refined engines and a long range of features. It will challenge the likes of Honda Jazz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the upcoming Tata premium hatchback based on the 45X concept. The current i20 is known for its premium quality interiors and several high-end features. Alongside feature-laden variants, the next-gen Hyundai i20 will offer more space inside the cabin. Hyundai will also work on the cabin insulation, offering better NVH levels. It is expected to receive a new touchscreen infotainment system with better interface. Report further suggests that the next model could also offer sunroof on higher trims. The hatchback will be powered by the same set of petrol and diesel engine options, but tuned to meet the BS6 norms. The current hatch is available with 2 engine options – 90bhp, 1.4-litre U2 CRDi diesel and 83bhp, 1.2-litre petrol. The hatchback could also debut the new turbo petrol engine that produces 118bhp of power.
