Next-generation Hero Karizma fully-faired motorcycle will share diamond frame chassis and the 200cc engine from the Hero Xtreme 200R

We informed you earlier that Hero MotoCorp is aiming at premium motorcycle segments to strengthen its market position. After introducing the Xtreme 200R, Hero is now gearing up for the launch of new XPulse 200 adventure and XPulse 200T Tourer in the first quarter of 2019. The company is also working on a 300cc sports bike, which was first showcased as Hero XF3R concept at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. What’s interesting is that the homegrown maker is planning to launch a new fully faired motorcycle.

The fully-faired motorcycle will share the platform and mechanics with the Xtreme 200R. It will be the brand’s 4th model in the 200cc category, all sharing the platform and engine. The new motorcycle is also likely to carry the ‘Karizma’ nameplate.

The report further claims that the new bike will use the same engine and underpinnings as the Xtreme 200R. The next Karizma will sit on the diamond type chassis. Suspension mechanism of the bike will comprise of telescopic forks up front and pre-load adjustable rear monoshock. The engine is likely to be tuned for more power output. While powering the Xtreme 200R, the 200cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine produces 18.4PS of power and 17.1Nm of torque. The engine is likely to be paired with a new set of gearbox and fuel injection technology.

Most interesting fact is that the new motorcycle might carry the Karizma nameplate. Hero Karizma was first launched in 2003 and has been one of the most popular among biking enthusiasts in the country. With arrival of more modern and powerful bikes, the Karizma started losing its grip from the quarter-litre motorcycle segment.

Currently, the Bajaj Pulsar RS200 is the only offering in the fully-faired 200cc category. The motorcycle is likely to carry an aggressive pricing. It is expected to be priced around Rs 1 lakh – Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom). The next-gen Karizma could be launched in the second half of 2019.
