This was the first official teaser of the new Bronco family; however, the models unveiled are completely different. This model is yet to be revealed by the automaker. It was speculated to be the smallest member in the Bronco family; however, the teaser doesn’t carry the name Bronco in the image.
This could be the brand’s upcoming compact SUV with off-road look. The Bronco Sport is currently the smallest member in the family, which rivals the Jeep Compass. The Bronco is positioned against the Jeep Wrangler, and the model in the teaser could be the smallest Bronco to rival the Jeep Renegade.
Ford is already selling the Puma crossover in the European markets. However, this will be different and will have off-road capabilities. It is expected that this model could be the next-gen Ford EcoSport, which is rumoured to be larger than the current one. The new model will have rugged styling, spacious cabin and off-road capabilities.
Ford is not selling the Puma in the USA, India and China, and the next-gen EcoSport could be successful in these markets. If media reports are to be believed, the next-gen EcoSport could measure around 4.27 meters in length. THe new model will come with AWD system and the 1.0L EcoBoost engine with power up to 155bhp.
The India-spec model could share the platform with Mahindra. However, reports claim that the new model is likely to retain the B-platform. In fact, Mahindra will also use this platform to develop an all-new mid-sized SUV – rumoured to be called the XUV400 for the Indian market. The India-spec next-gen Ford EcoSport is likely to be powered by Mahindra-sourced 1.2L mStallion turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 130bhp of power and 230Nm of torque. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.
