Seeing the rising demand for scooters, automakers are preparing models to increase their market share. Not just regular scooters, the performance scooter segment is also gaining huge popularity in the market. The Indian market will soon receive a range of new Maxi Scooters. Piaggio is also developing an all-new maxi scooter for Indian market, which will be sold under the Aprilia nameplate. This model will be India’s second Maxi scooter, first being the Suzuki Burgman 125cc.

A new media report claims that the Aprilia 160cc Maxi scooter is in the final stage of its development and will be more powerful than the Suzuki Burgman. Similar to the Japanese counterpart, Aprilia aims to create its own brand identity in the highly competitive Indian market. Unlike Aprilia SR 150, the new model will offer practicality and comfortable ride. This bigger capacity maxi scooter is expected to offer high comfort during long distance cruising as well. The Aprilia 160 maxi scooter will be powered by the same 155cc single-cylinder motor that also powers the SR 150. It will be tuned for different power outputs and to suit the needs of a big size maxi scooter. This engine will be compliant with BSVI emission norms. While powering the SR150, this engine produces 10.25bhp of power and 11.4Nm of torque. Not just Piaggio, Yamaha is also readying a 150cc maxi scooter in India. Called the N-MAX, this scooter is powered by a 155cc single-cylinder engine that also powers the R15. However, this engine will be de-tuned to suit the needs of a big-sized maxi scooter.
