All Jeep SUVs To Turn Electric By 2022

In June 2018, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles had announced its five-year strategic plan that has a major focus on electrifying all the corporation brands. Jeep will be among the fastest subsidiary brand of the Italian car manufacturers to adopt electrifications.

Global President Christian Meunièr, Global President of Jeep brand, said that the company aims to be “the greenest SUV brand in the world”. The American SUV maker will begin introducing its plug-in hybrid/battery-electric vehicles from the next year. The Jeep Wrangler plug-in hybrid variant will be the first model to roll out under the electrification plan.

In 2021, the company will bring in the hybrid version of the new Grand Cherokee, new Grand Wagoneer and new Grand Wagoneer that will be assembled at the company’s Detroit 2 Assembly plant and Warren Truck Assembly plant respectively.

By 2022, Jeep will introduce 10 PHEVs (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) along with 4 battery-electric vehicles. The American carmaker is also working on the Level 3 autonomous technology that’s likely to debut in the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Talking about Jeep’s India plant, the company will expand its product portfolio with the new 7-seater SUV that will go up against the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. It’s estimated to cost around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom) and might debut in late 2020 or early 2021.
