After Hyryder, Toyota Will Launch 3 New Cars In India

Toyota is all set to announce the prices of the new Urban Cruiser Hyryder in the coming days. After Hyryder, the Japanese automaker will launch 2 new SUVs and an all-new MPV in the country. The company is developing an all-new SUV Cross and the next-gen Fortuner. Adding to it, the next-gen Innova is also under development.

The company is testing the next-gen Innova MPV, which will come with all-new design, platform and interior. To be called the Innova HyCross, the new MPV will be sold alongside the existing the Innova Crysta that’s hugely popular among fleet operators. It is reportedly to be unveiled in November 2022, while official launch is expected in January 2023.

Instead of the ladder-frame chassis with rear-wheel-drive layout, the new Toyota Innova HyCross will be based on a new modern, monocoque, front-wheel-drive set-up. It will be designed and developed on the Toyota’s global TNGA-C or GA-C (Global Architecture). It is likely to have a wheelbase of around 2,850mm, which is 100mm longer than the current Innova Crysta. The Innova HyCross is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre petrol hybrid powertrain. It is expected to use the localised version of the new THS II (Toyota Hybrid System II) that has a twin-motor setup calibrated to deliver high ‘step-off’ torque and better efficiency.

Yaris Cross Details

Toyota and Suzuki joint venture is reportedly working on a new SUV Cross, which has already been spotted testing multiple times. MSIL will first launch the new YTB SUV Cross in January-February 2023. Toyota is also expected to launch its own version of the SUV Cross, which is also likely to be launched in 2023. Interestingly, Toyota is testing the Yaris Cross on the Indian roads. And, the new SUV Coupe is likely to share some of the styling cues from the global Yaris Cross.

It will be designed and developed on Suzuki’s lightweight HEARTECT platform, which underpins the new Baleno and the Glanza. The new SUV Cross is expected to be powered by a new Suzuki’s 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol engine, which will debut in the Maruti YTB SUV Coupe. This engine will also come with a higher degree of electrification. It could also receive a 1.5L K15C petrol engine with a mild-hybrid system. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer.

Next-gen Toyota Fortuner

Toyota has started working on the next-gen Fortuner SUV, which is scheduled to be introduced in 2023. The new model will come with all-new design and upgraded cabin along with a new engine option. If media reports are to be believed, the new Fortuner will be based on the Toyota’s TNGA-F architecture that also underpins the Tundra and the Sequoia and Land Cruiser SUVs. The platform supports a wheelbase length of 2,850-4,180mm.

The next-gen Fortuner will come with a new diesel engine with mild hybrid system. It will get the 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre diesel engine with an integrated starter generator (ISG). The new model is likely to offer higher fuel efficiency and added torque on demand.
