8 New SUV Launches Before 2021 Diwali Season

2021 has been fruitful for the Indian automobile industry so far. We have witnessed multiple big new car launches and several of them are pipelined for the coming months. Here, we have listed the top 8 new SUV launches, which are slated to arrive 2021 Diwali/festive season.

1. New Tata Safari

Tata Motors will announce prices of the new Safari SUV on 22nd February, 2021. Pre-bookings have already begun at a token sum of Rs 30,000. The new Tata Safari is essentially the bigger version of the Harrier that was previewed in its pre-production avatar as Gravitas at the last year’s Auto Expo. The upcoming 6/7-seater Tata SUV will be available in 6 trims powered by Harrier’s 170bhp, 2.0L turbo diesel engine. Transmission choices will include 6-speed manual and automatic. Most of its design bits and features are carried forward from the Harrier. Though, a few cosmetic and feature upgrades have been made to the new Safari.

2. Citroen C5 Aircross

Citroen has confirmed that official bookings for the upcoming C5 Aircross SUV will begin from 1st March, followed by its launch. The model lineup will be spread across 2 trims – Feel and Shine. The latter one offers only 3 extra features over the base variant including LED headlamps, hands free tailgate opening and a panoramic sunroof. For power, the Citroen C5 Aircross will use a 2.0L diesel engine with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The motor pushes out a peak power of 177bhp and 400Nm of torque. It’s claimed to offer fuel economy of 18.6kmpl. Initially, the new Citroen SUV will be sold across 10 select cities via the brand’s La Maison showrooms.

3. Skoda Kushaq

The Czech carmaker will unveil the production-ready Skoda Kushaq SUV on 18th March 2021. Its launch is expected to happen in the following weeks. Here, it will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun. It will be the first Skoda model to underpin India-specific, locally developed MQB A0 IN platform. The SUV’s engine setup will include a 110bhp, 1.0L, 3-cylinder TSI petrol and a 150bhp, 1.5, 4-cylinder TSI petrol. There will be three gearboxes on offer – a 6-speed manual (standard), a 6-speed automatic (1.0L petrol only) and a 7-speed DSG (1.5L petrol only). Compared to the Creta and Seltos, the Kushaq has longer wheelbase.

4. Volkswagen Taigun

Volkswagen Taigun, the upcoming mid-size SUV from the German carmaker, will take head-to-head against the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Similar to the Skoda Kushaq, the Taigun will be based on the locally-developed MQB A0 IN platform. In fact, the new Volkswagen SUV will share its powertrains and features with the Kushaq. Design and styling of the VW Taigun is inspired by the global-spec VW T-ROC SUV. However, it will be bigger than the T-ROC. Some of its key features will include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, all-digital instrument console, connected car technology, wireless charging, electrically adjustable drivers’ seat, automatic AC, sunroof and cruise control. 

5. Hyundai Creta 7-Seater

If reports are to be believed, the Hyundai Creta 7-seater SUV will arrive in April, 2021. Once launched, it will lock horns against the cars like MG Hector Plus, the upcoming new-generation Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Safari. With an additional third row of seats, the Creta 7-seater measure bigger and have more cabin space than its younger sibling. The SUV will receive a few cosmetic upgrades along with a pack of features. Similar to the 5-seater model, the bigger one will come with a 1.4L turbo petrol (140bhp), a 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol (115bhp), and a 1.5L turbo diesel (115bhp). The SUV will be offered with 4 gearbox options.

6. MG ZS Petrol (Astor)

The petrol iteration of the MG ZS mid-size SUV is slated to launch before 2021 Diwali season. It will be MG’s answer to the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Reports suggest that the SUV’s final model might be named MG Astor. It will measure around 4.3 meters in length and sit above the Hector in the company’s product lineup. The carmaker will introduce the facelifted version of the ZS petrol that’s sold in the European markets. Powering the SUV will be a 1.5L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol motor that’s good for 120bhp and 150Nm. There will also be a 1.3L turbocharged petrol engine delivering 163bhp and 230Nm. It will make it the most powerful car in its segment.

7. New-Gen Maruti Vitara Brezza

Maruti Suzuki will give a generation change to the Vitara Brezza before this year’s Diwali season. Reports suggest that the SUV will ditch its existing architecture for Suzuki’s Heartect or modified version of the global Vitara’s C-platform. With the generation change, the SUV might receive a stronger mild hybrid system with the 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine. It’s likely to receive a larger battery and a more powerful electric motor that will improve its fuel efficiency. The 2021 Maruti Vitara Brezza might also come with a BS6, 1.5L diesel engine. Significant changes will be made to its exterior and interior.

8. New-Gen Mahindra XUV500

The second-generation Mahindra XUV500 is likely to hit roads third quarter of 2021 (i.e. just before the 2021 Diwali season). The model will witness comprehensive changes inside and out along with a new engine setup. The 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will come with the 2.0L turbo mStallion petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel engines delivering 190bhp and 180bhp respectively. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer. The SUV will be packed with several advanced comfort and connectivity features including a new Mercedes-Benz inspired infotainment display, a panoramic sunroof, level 1 autonomous driving assist system (ADAS), radar technology and many more.
