8 New Exciting SUVs Launching Within 6 Months: VW Taigun, Scorpio

2020 was the tough year for automakers due to COVID-19 Pandemic; however, situation is improving at fast pace. The Indian auto industry recorded a positive growth of over 20 percent in December 2020. In order to maintain the sales momentum, automakers are planning to launch new cars including SUVs and MPVs. In this article, we bring you a list of 8 new exciting SUVs that will be launched in the Indian market in the next 6 months –

1. New Tata Safari

Tata Motors has officially announced that the production version of the Gravitas 7-seater SUV will be called the new Safari. The new Tata Safari is scheduled to be launched in the country in the end of January 2021. It is basically the 7-seater version of the Harrier SUV. The SUV is around 63mm longer and 80mm taller than the 5-seater model. The SUV also receives some design changes and new colour options, which will help make it look different from the 5-seater sibling. It will be powered by a 170bhp, 2.0-litre Kryotec turbo-diesel engine that also powers the Harrier. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

2. New Mahindra XUV500

The homegrown UV maker will introduce the new generation XUV500 SUV in the country in March-April 2021. The production version of the SUV could be unveiled in February. The new XUV500 will be based on the new front-wheel-drive monocoque platform, which will also underpin the new Ford C-SUV. It will be equipped with several segment-leading features like ADAS, panoramic sunroof, powered seats, cruise control, climate control, Mercedes-inspired infotainment system and instrument console, etc. The new Mahindra XUV500 will be equipped with two engine options – a 190bhp, 2.0L turbo-petrol and a 180bhp, 2.2L turbo-diesel. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer.

Launch – March-April 2021
Expected Price – Rs 13-20 lakh

3. New Mahindra Scorpio

The long-awaited new generation Mahindra Mahindra Scorpio will be launched in the country in the second quarter of 2021. The new model will be based on the revised ladder-on-frame chassis, which underpins the new Thar. Going by the spy images, it is visible that the new Scorpio will grow in size and will offer more space inside the cabin. The SUV will share most of the interior features with the new XUV500, which means it will have a touchscreen infotainment system, sunroof, cruise control, climate control, etc. The new Scorpio is expected to be powered by a new 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine producing around 158bhp of power. The SUV will also receive a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the new Thar. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

4. Renault Kiger

Renault will unveil the production version of the Kiger sub-4 meter SUV on January 28, 2021. The SUV will be launched in the second quarter of 2021, most probably in April. Likely to be the most affordable in its category, the Kiger will be positioned against the Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon and the Hyundai Venue. It is based on the CMF-A+ platform, which also underpins the new Nissan Magnite and the Renault Triber. The Kiger will be offered with two engine options – a 72bhp, 1.0L naturally-aspirated petrol with 5MT and a 99bhp, 1.0L turbo-petrol with 5MT and CVT automatic.

Expected Price – Rs 5.5 – 9.5 lakh

5. Tata HBX

Tata Motors will launch the production version of the HBX micro SUV in the second quarter of 2021. It will be based on the ALFA modular platform, which also underpins the new Altroz. It will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT. The new mini SUV will share most of the features and interior layout with the new Altroz. It will be offered with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine that produces 86bhp and 113Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit.

Launch – April-June 2021
Expected Price – Rs 4.5 – 6.5 lakh

6. Skoda Vision IN

Czech automaker will unveil the production version of the Vision IN SUV in January-February 2021, while launch will take place in the second quarter of 2021. The company has registered multiple names including Kosmiq, Kliq, Karmiq and Kushaq. It will be based on the heavily localised MQB AO IN platform, which will also underpin the new mid-sized sedan. The mid-sized SUV will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. It will be offered with two engine options – a 108bhp, 1.0L turbo petrol with 6MT and 6AT, and a 147bhp, 1.5L turbo-petrol with a 7-speed DSG.

Launch – April-June 2021
Expected Price – Rs 9.5 – 15 lakh

7. Volkswagen Taigun

Volkswagen will launch the production version of the Taigun mid-sized SUV before Diwali, most probably in June 2021. The new SUV will be built on the MQB AO IN platform. To be positioned against the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos, the new VW Taigun will come equipped with several high-end comfort and convenience features. Not just platform, the Taigun will also share the engine options with the Vision IN based SUV.

Launch – June-July 2021
Expected Price – Rs 10 – 15 lakh

8. MG ZS Petrol

MG ZS Petrol

MG Motors will introduce the petrol version of the ZS mid-sized SUV in the country in the second quarter of 2021. Likely to be priced between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 13 lakh, the new MG ZS SUV will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Nissan Kicks. In the international markets, the SUV is offered with 1.3L turbo petrol and 1.5L naturally aspirated motors generating power worth 160bhp with 230Nm and 118bhp with 150Nm respectively. The India-spec model could also receive a new 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox options.
