7-seater Maruti Wagon R to be sold through NEXA dealerships

New Maruti WagonR 2019 Specifications

Likely to be called Solio, the 7-seater Wagon R MPV will be sold exclusively through NEXA premium sales network.

We informed you earlier that Maruti Suzuki is working on the 7-seater version of the Wagon R. Likely to be called Solio, the 7-seater MPV will be sold exclusively through NEXA premium sales network. It won’t be available through regular Maruti Suzuki ARENA dealerships. Media reports claim that the new model will be launched in June 2019; however, Maruti Suzuki is yet to make an official announcement on the same.

The new-generation Maruti Wagon R is based on the new HEARTECT platform, which is stronger and flexible. However, the sales of the new model have been reduced significantly. With the 7-seater Wagon R, Maruti Suzuki is aiming to further improve sales in the market. The Indo-Japanese brand is aiming to utilise the long wheelbase of the existing Wagon R to accommodate 3rd row of seats. The length of the new model will be increased, though it will continue to sit under 4 meter in length. Since the 7-seater MPV will be a NEXA only model, it will be equipped with several high-end features and will come with a more premium interior.

The new Maruti Wagon R 7-seater MPV will directly rival the upcoming Renault Triber and the Datsun GO+. Similar to the Wagon R Electric, the 7-seater MPV could also receive the hybrid and electric variant in the future. Adding to it, Maruti Suzuki has no plans to offer the new model to the taxi segment like the Ertiga.

The new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 7-seater will only be offered in the petrol avatar. It will be powered by a BSVI compliant 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine that also powers the 5-seater Wagon R. This engine churns out 82bhp of power and 113Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual and AMT (Automated Manual Transmission).

This year, Maruti Suzuki will also launch a mini SUV based on the Concept Future S. Likely to be called Maruti Suzuki ZEN, the new model will be launched before Diwali 2019. It will challenge the likes of Mahindra KUV100 NXT, Renault Kwid and the upcoming Tata H2X. Adding to it, the company will launch the petrol powered S-Cross and Vitara Brezza.
