6 New Mahindra SUVs Launching In 2021-22; Two Electric SUVs

Buoyed by excellent response for new Thar lifestyle SUV, Mahindra is now readying multiple new SUVs and electric vehicles for the domestic market. The company has recently launched the new Bolero Neo, which is essentially the re-badged version of the TUV300 facelift.

Mahindra is now gearing up for the launch of the much-awaited XUV700 7-seater SUV, which is expected to make debut on August 15, 2021. Adding to it, the brand will launch the next-gen Scorpio and two electric SUVs in 2022. In total, Mahindra will introduce 5 SUVs and an AMT version of the Marazzo MPV in India.

1. Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus

The company will soon roll out the longer version of the Bolero Neo, which will be called the new Bolero Neo Plus. The new model is expected to measure around 400-410mm longer than the standard model. It will be a 9-seater SUV with three rows of seats. The third row will have side facing bench-type seats placed in the boot area. The SUV will share the styling cues and features from the 7-seater Bolero Neo.

The new Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus is likely to be powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine with the manual gearbox. Automatic version will be introduced at a later stage. The regular 7-seater model is powered by a 100bhp, 1.5L 3-cylinder diesel engine paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

2. Mahindra XUV700

The new Mahindra XUV700 is expected to be unveiled on August 15, while launch likely on October 2, 2021. It will replace the ageing XUV500, and will be positioned against the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and the MG Hector Plus.  It is expected to be priced somewhere between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 22 lakh. The SUV will be designed on the all-new monocoque platform with a provision of 4WD system.

The new XUV700 will be offered with two engine options – a 2.2L turbo petrol with power close to 200bhp and a 2.2L turbo diesel with expected power output of 185bhp. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

3. New Mahindra Scorpio

The next-gen Mahindra Scorpio will be launched in the first quarter of 2022. It will be based on the new ladder-on-frame chassis, which also underpins the new Thar lifestyle SUV. The new Scorpio will be equipped with modern features such as a large touchscreen infotainment system, automatic AC, electric sunroof, cruise control, multi-functional steering wheel, etc.

The new Mahindra Scorpio will be offered with two engine options – a 2.0L turbocharged petrol with power output close to 150bhp, and a 2.2L turbo-diesel engine with close to 158bhp power.  Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The SUV will get AWD or 4×4 option.

4. Mahindra Marazzo AMT

Mahindra has confirmed that the AMT version of the Marazzo MPV is under development. It is expected to be launched in the end of 2021. This model will come with Mahindra’s AutoShift technology. It is expected to be powered by the same 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that churns out a maximum power output of 121bhp at 3,500rpm and a peak torque of 300Nm between 1,750-2,500rpm.

5. Mahindra eKUV100

First unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo, the new Mahindra eKUV100 electric micro SUV is expected to be launched in early 2022. The SUV looks similar to the KUV100 petrol. The major difference is the new closed-off front grille with small arrow shaped insert with six finished in blue, and two flaps covering the charging ports.

It features a 15.9kWh battery pack that powers an electric motor. The electric motor produces 54.4bhp (40kW) and 120Nm of torque. Using regular charger, the battery can be charged to 100% in 5 hr 45min. The battery can achieve 80% charging in 55min using a fast charger. The vehicle is claimed to offer a range of up to 150km; however, Mahindra is working on upgrading the battery to achieve higher range.

6. Mahindra eXUV300

The new Mahindra eXUV300 will be positioned against the Tata Nexon EV. This model will debut the brand’s new Made-in-India MESMA (Mahindra Electric Scalable Modular Architecture) platform. It allows setting lithium-ion battery pack low into the floor for achieving a low centre of gravity and make maximum cabin space.

This electric SUV is expected to come with the standard 40kWh and 60kWh long-range battery options. With smaller capacity battery, the eXUV300 will offer a range of around 370km. The long-range version is expected to deliver around 450km range.
