Diesel SUVs are more powerful and fuel efficient compared to the equivalent petrol variants. Mahindra XUV700
Mahindra will introduce the new XUV700 7-seater SUV, which will replace the ageing the XUV500. The new model will be based on the new monocoque platform with a provision for a 4WD system. The new Mahindra XUV700 will be positioned against the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and the MG Hector Plus.
The new XUV700 7-seater SUV will be offered with a new 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which is reportedly to produce around 185bhp of power and close to 400Nm of torque. The petrol version will get the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that is likely to produce around 200bhp of power. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
New Mahindra Scorpio
Mahindra has officially announced that the next gen Scorpio 7-seater SUV will be launched in the first quarter of 2022. The new model will be based on the ladder-on-frame chassis, which also underpins the new Thar. The new Mahindra Scorpio will grow in size and will offer more space inside the cabin.
The new Mahindra Scorpio will be offered with two engine options – a 2.0L turbocharged petrol with power output close to 150bhp, and a 2.2L turbo-diesel engine with close to 158bhp power. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The SUV will get AWD or 4×4 option.
Next-gen Maruti Vitara Brezza
Maruti Suzuki is developing the next-gen Vitara Brezza, which is scheduled to be launched in the next 6-9 months. If reports are to be believed, the new Brezza could receive a diesel engine option as well. The SUV is likely to get the BSVI compliant 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine. In the BS4 avatar, this engine produces 94bhp and 225Nm of torque.
Maruti-Toyota mid-sized SUV
Maruti Suzuki and Toyota jointly working on a new mid-sized SUV, which will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. The new SUV is reportedly to be based on Toyota’s DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) low cost platform, which currently underpins the Daihatsu Rocky and the Toyota Raize. The new SUV is expected to be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. It is likely to get a 1.5L diesel engine with an increased power and torque output.
New Force Gurkha
Force Motors will launch the new gen Gurkha SUV, which has already been caught testing numerous times in India. The new Force Gurkha is based on the new ladder-on-frame chassis. The SUV features all-new stronger bodyshell, which will meet the existing crash test standards and the upcoming pedestrian safety norms.
It will be powered by a BS6-compliant diesel engine that churns out 90bhp of power and 280Nm of torque. Compared to the BS4 version, the updated engine is more powerful. The lifestyle SUV will come with a 5-speed manual gearbox and 4WD (four-wheel drive) system with manual locking differentials controlled through levers. The new Fource Gurkha also comes with the 2WD (two-wheel drive) system.
