5 Upcoming Small Cars In India – Expected Launch Details

Car manufacturers have planned multiple new launches for the Indian market. The upcoming models will be spread across the segments right from the entry-level small cars to big 7/8-seater family vehicles. Here’re expected launch timeline and details of the new upcoming small cars that will hit roads in the coming months.

Mahindra eKUV100

Mahindra’s next big launch is likely to be the Mahindra eKUV100 that’s currently in its final testing phase. The small electric SUV is reported to hit showrooms in early 2022. Its powertrain will consist of a 15.9kWh battery pack delivering power to an electric motor. The latter one is good one for 54.4bhp and 120Nm. Its battery pack will support both regular power socket and fast charger. The eKUV100 range is claimed to be up to 150km. A few noticeable cosmetic changes will be made to the upcoming Mahindra eKUV100 to differentiate it from the standard model. The electric small SUV will have Blue accents on the headlamps and taillamps along with the + and – signs on the license plate. Its expected to be priced around Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom).

Citroen C3, the upcoming hatchback from the French carmaker, is slated to launch early next year. The model will be designed on the CMP (Common Modular Platform) architecture and developed with over 90% locally sourced components. It’s expected to be priced aggressive to challenge cars like Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the newly-launched Tata Punch. In terms of design, features and engine, the India-spec Citroen C3 will be different from the European model. Here, the new Citroen hatchback will be offered with two petrol (1.2L naturally aspirated and 1.2L turbo) and one diesel engine (1.5L). Several design bits and features will come as options, even for the top-end variant.

Maruti Suzuki has started testing the new-generation Alto in the country. Just so you know, the Japan-spec new Suzuki Alto recently made its debut with improved styling and feature upgrades. The India-spec version will be different from its Japan version. The hatchback’s new-generation model might launch in India by mid 2022. As of now, details are scanty. Though, the hatchback is likely to receive major cosmetic changes and feature upgrades along with bigger dimensions. Under the hood, the 2022 Maruti Alto might continue to carry the 769cc, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine making 48bhp and 69Nm. It might also come with the 1.0L, 3-cylinder petrol engine.

The new-generation Suzuki Swift hatchback is reported to make global debut in mid 2022. While there is no official word on its India launch timeline, the new Swift is likely to arrive in late 2022 or early 2023. If reports are to be believed, the hatchback’s new model will underpin a newly-designed platform that will be lighter, safer and more rigid than the existing one. The Swift will come with more evolved design, up-market interior and a more powerful engine.  Under the hood, the hatch might feature a more refined version of the 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine benefited with hybrid system. This time around, it might receive a stronger hybrid technology that will make it more fuel efficient than before. Here, it will come with the 82bhp, 1.2L petrol and 1.2L dual-jet petrol engine options.

New-Gen Tata Tiago

Tata Motors will introduce the new-generation models of its three highly popular products, namely, Tiago, Tigor and Nexon. While there is no official word on their launch timeline, these are expected to arrive sometime in 2022 or 2023. With the generation change, the entry-level Tata Tiago hatchback will ditch its existing platform for the Alfa architecture that underpins the Altroz and the upcoming Punch micro SUV. Significant changes are likely to be made inside and out. Engine setup, however, could be carried over from the current generation.
