5 Upcoming New Maruti Suzuki SUVs – Launch Details

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, is planning to expand its UV (Utility Vehicle) portfolio in coming years. Reports suggest that the Indo-Japanese carmaker plans to launch 5 new SUVs with one product in every six months till 2023. Similar to its hatchback segment, the each new Maruti Suzuki SUV will have a price gap of Rs 45,000 to Rs 50,000. Here’re details of the upcoming new Maruti Suzuki SUVs that we know so far.

1. Maruti-Toyota MPV (H2, 2021)

Suzuki and Toyota are jointly working on a new C-segment MPV based on the FWD (front-wheel-drive) monocoque platform. In terms of pricing, the new Maruti Suzuki MPV will sit between the Ertiga and Innova Crysta. If reports are to be believed, the model will hit roads in the second half of 2021. It would be quite early to comment on its engines. Though, the company might use a newly-developed 1.2L turbo petrol motor and a 1.5L K15B petrol engine with mild hybrid system. It will be sold via Nexa dealerships.

2. New-Gen Vitara Brezza (H1, 2022)

With the arrival of Kia Sonet, the competition gets fiercer in the subcompact SUV space. In order to boost its sales, the Indo-Japanese carmaker is planning to give a generation change to the Vitara Brezza in the second half of 2022. The biggest change might come in the form of the new Toyota’s DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) platform that has been designed to create “small cars that pursues fuel efficiency, affordable pricing and safety”.  The 2022 Maruti Vitara Brezza might also receive Suzuki’s new mild hybrid system (48V SHVS) along with a new diesel powertrain.

3. Maruti Mid-Size SUV (H2, 2022)

Maruti Suzuki is planning to foray into the mid-size SUV space with a new model that will designed and developed under its partnership with Toyota. Production of the SUV will take place at Toyota Bidadi based plant in Karnataka. Once launched, the new Maruti Suzuki SUV will go head-to-head against the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Measuring around 4.3 meters in length, the mid-size SUV will underpin Toyota’s DNGA platform that’s designed for emerging markets. The carmaker might offer a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, a new 1.2L turbo petrol or a 1.4L turbo petrol engine for the SUV. It’s reported to be launched in the second half of 2022.

4. Baleno-Based Crossover (H2, 2022)

The Indo-Japanese carmaker is also working on a compact crossover that will challenge the Tata Nexon. Codenamed Maruti Suzuki YTB, the new model will be based on the Baleno hatchback. It’s surely one of the much-awaited new Maruti Suzuki SUVs that’s likely to see a release in the second half of 2022. As mentioned above, it will be built on Baleno’s platform and it might share several design bits and features with its hatchback sibling. More details of the product are likely to be revealed in near future.

5. Maruti Suzuki Jimny (2023)

The next in the list of upcoming Maruti Suzuki SUVs is the Jimny compact off-roader. The carmaker showcased its three-door version at the 2020 Auto Expo that gathered much attention from visitors. Rumour has it that the off-roader will be put on display at Nexa dealerships from January, 2021. Though, the company might bring in the Maruti Jimny 5-door sometime in 2023. Here, it could be offered with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that’s good for 103bhp and 138Nm. It might get part-time FWD (four-wheel-drive) system with low range. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer.
