Sunroof is a feature that was offered with the high-end premium cars. However, things have changed drastically. Now, automakers are providing sunroof as factory-fitted with mass segment cars as well. Cars like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Verna, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon and others are equipped with this feature. Kia Sonet
Korean automaker, Kia will launch the Sonet compact SUV in the Indian market in August 2020. The company had unveiled the SUV in pre-production form at the 2020 Auto Expo. While the sunroof was not added with the concept, the production model is reportedly to feature the large sunroof as factory-fitted option. The sub-4 meter SUV is based on the Hyundai Venue’s platform. It will be offered with 3 engine options – a 1.0L turbo petrol, a 1.2L naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.5L turbo-diesel.
New Hyundai i20
The next-gen Hyundai i20 is reportedly to be launched in the Indian market in the third quarter of this year, before festive season. The new model has been spotted multiple times with factory-fitted sunroof. This model will be the segment-only car to offer this feature. It will share the engine specs with the Hyundai Venue compact SUV, which means 1.2L petrol, 1.0L turbo-petrol and 1.5L diesel.
Nissan Magnite
Japanese automaker, Nissan has officially teased the upcoming sub-4 meter compact SUV, codenamed EM2. Rumoured to be called the Nissan Magnite, the compact SUV is reportedly to be offered with the factory-fitted sunroof. This feature is likely to come on the top-end variant of the SUV. The compact SUV is reportedly to be launched in May, though launch could have been delayed due to rising Coronavirus cases. It will be powered by a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine paired to either a manual or a CVT automatic transmission.
Renault Kiger HBC
Renault’s upcoming compact SUV, codenamed HBC will also receive the sunroof as optional feature in the top-end variant. It will be based on the CMF-A+ platform, which also underpins the Triber. The compact SUV is scheduled to be launched in July 2020. It will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 99bhp and 160Nm.
Next-gen Honda City
Similar to the outgoing City, the next-gen Honda City will also receive the factory-fitted panoramic sunroof. The new model will be launched in the next couple of months. It will be offered with 2 BSVI compliant engines – a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel.
