Beginning of the next year, Indian market will witness the launch of series of new cars in different segments. While Tata & Nissan will enter into the premium SUV segment, Honda will re-enter into the popular D-sedan segment. Here we bring you top 5 new cars that will be launched in the first quarter of 2019 –

– Tata Harrier

This is undoubtedly the most awaited new car in the Indian market. First showcased as H5X Concept at 2018 Auto Expo, the Tata Harrier will go on sale in January 2019. Production of the car has already been started & interested buyers can pre-book this SUV at a token amount of Rs 30,000. The Harrier will be Tata’s first model to feature new flexible OMEGA platform, which is derived from Land Rover’s D8 architecture. Moreover, the SUV will also debut the brand’s new IMPACT 2.0 Design philosophy. It will be powered by a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine, called KRYOTEC, that also powers the Jeep Compass. However, this engine will offer less power compared to the Compass.

– Honda Civic

After launching the new Amaze and Honda CR-V 7-seater, Honda will re-launch the popular Civic nameplate in January 2019. The mid-sized sedan is currently in its 10th generation and will rival the likes of Hyundai Elantra, Skoda Octavia and Toyota Corolla Altis. The sedan is based on all-new modular platform, which is claimed to be stiffer and safer. For the first time, the sedan will be offered in petrol and diesel guise. The petrol version will get the tried & tested 140bhp, 1.8-litre i-VTEC engine, while the diesel model will have a new 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine producing 118bhp and 300Nm. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer.

Expected Price – Rs 16 lakh – Rs 20 lakh

Mahindra XUV300

In order to regain lost market share, Mahindra will soon enter into the premium sub-4 meter SUV category. The company will launch a small SUV – Mahindra XUV300 – based on the SsangYong’s X100 platform that also underpins the Tivoli. The SUV will be equipped with segment-leading features like 7 airbags, panoramic sunroof, all-4 disc brakes, ESP, Hill launch assist, automatic climate control and leather seats. The SUV will also be the most powerful in its category, featuring a 123bhp, 1.5-litre diesel engine. The petrol version will receive a newly developed 1.2-litre turbocharged engine that is likely to offer over 120bhp of power.

Expected Price – Rs 8 lakh – Rs 12 lakh

Nissan Kicks

Japanese automaker will launch the Kicks 5-seater premium SUV in India in the first quarter of 2019. The company has already previewed the exterior design, which looks quite appealing. It is based on the heavily localised Duster’s MO platform. The SUV is likely to share engines and other mechanical bits from the Renault Captur. The SUV is claimed to be equipped with segment-leading features like telematics-enabled smartwatch to track vehicle’s location and speed, high-end touchscreen infotainment system and a part-digital instrument cluster with a digital screen showing navigation and other functions.

– New Maruti WagonR

Maruti Suzuki will launch the new-generation Wagon R hatchback in the starting of next quarter. Testing of the hatchback has already been started, which reveals some of the design highlights. What’s interesting is that the new-gen Wagon R will retain the original tall-boy stance and practical cabin. The hatchback is most likely to feature the existing platform, which will be modified for better stability and safety. The hatchback will retain the tried & tested 1.0-litre K-Series petrol engine paired to either a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox.
