5 Most-Awaited New SUVs In 2021 – Jeep Commander, Hyundai Alcazar

In the next 6-9 months, auto manufacturer will introduce a wide range of new SUVs and MPVs in the Indian market. In this article, we bring you a list of top 5 most awaited new SUVs that will be unveiled in 2021 –

Hyundai Alcazar

Hyundai will launch the new Alcazar 7-seater SUV, which will rival the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and the Mahindra XUV500. It is based on the Creta’s platform; however, it rides on 2,760mm wheelbase that is 150mm higher than the Creta. In fact, the wheelbase is higher than the Safari and the Hector.

The SUV will be offered in 6-and 7-seat options. The Hyundai Alcazar will be offered with two engine options – a 159PS, 2.0-litre petrol and a 115PS, 1.5-litre turbo-diesel. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.

American SUV maker, Jeep will present a new 7-seater SUV based on the Compass platform. To be called the new Jeep Commander, the new 7-seater SUV will be positioned against the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the MG Gloster. The new Jeep Commander will be offered in 6-and 7-seat layouts.

The new will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that also powers the Compass. The 7-seater version will receive a twin-turbocharged version of the engine, which is likely to produce close to 200bhp and over 400Nm of torque. It will be paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission.

Tata HBX

Tata HBX Timero Mini SUV

Tata Motors will launch the production version of the HBX micro SUV in the mid-2021. Rumoured to be called the Tata Timero, the new micro SUV will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT. The new model will be based on the new ALFA modular platform, which also underpins the Altroz hatchback. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 85bhp of power and 110Nm of torque. Both manual and AMT versions will be on offer.

The second generation Mahindra XUV500 is scheduled to be launched in mid-2021, around July-August. The new model will be based on the new front-wheel-drive monocoque platform. It will grow in size, which will help Mahindra to create more space inside the cabin. The SUV will be benefitted with new high-end features. In fact, the new XUV500 will receive the segment-leading ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System).

The new Mahindra XUV500 will also receive new engine options – a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel and a new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

Maruti Suzuki will launch the second generation Vitara Brezza in the second half of 2021. The new model is rumoured to be launched in the third quarter of 2021. It will be based on the new HEARTECT platform and will receive new advanced features such as connected car tech and stronger hybrid system. The new Brezza will retain the existing 1.5-litre K15B, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine; however, it will be supported by a stronger mild-hybrid system. MSIL is expected to add larger battery and a more powerful electric motor to achieve higher fuel efficiency. This will also help MSIL to make new Brezza compliant with upcoming CAFE norms. The SUV will also receive a 6-speed automatic gearbox, which will replace the existing 4-speed unit.
