It was speculated that KTM will introduce the 490 Duke and the RC 490, but the presentation reveals that the brand will introduce 5 products in the 490 lineup. A new KTM 490 Adventure motorcycle will join the Duke and RC range. Adding to it, KTM will also introduce 490 Enduro and Supermoto.

While the KTM’s existing Duke and RC 390 range comes with single-cylinder engine, the KTM 490s will come with a parallel twin-cylinder engine. This segment will target buyers who want to upgrade from the current 390cc motorcycles including Duke 390, RC390 and the Adventure 390. The twin-cylinder engine is likely to improve the refinment levels and will be significantly more powerful than the 43bhp, 390cc single-cylinder engine. In fact, the new twin-cylinder engine will have similar formats or design structure as the company’s 790/890 engines.

Previous reports claim that the KTM 490 series motorcycles will be based on the new platform, which was developed at Bajaj’s R&D center in Pune. Bajaj Auto will soon start a new factory new Pune, which will be used to develop KTM, Husqvarna and Triumph motorcycles. The new KTM 490 motorcycles could also be developed by CFMoto, which is KTM’s partner in China.
