We informed you earlier that the Suzuki Jimny Long Wheelbase version will be introduced by the end of this year or early next year. The SUV will make its way to our market by July 2022. The new model has already been caught testing in foreign soil.
A new media report claims that the new Jimny LWB could come with a turbocharged petrol engine. The reason given for this is the increase in weight and size of the SUV. The 5-door SUV is expected to get a turbocharged petrol engine with a mild hybrid system. The new model will be based on the Jimny Sierra, which is powered by a 1.5L petrol engine that produces 102PS of power and 130Nm of torque.
The LWB model could receive the turbocharged version of this engine; however, Suzuki is yet to make an official announcement on the same. With 1.5-litre petrol engine, the 5-door Jimny won’t qualify for the lower excise duties on offer in the sub-4 meter category.
The 5-door Suzuki Jimny will have a 300mm longer wheelbase, and the length will be increased by 300mm. This increase will help in liberating more space inside the cabin. The LWB model will measure 3,850mm in length, 1,645mm in width and 1,730mm in height. The SUV will have a wheelbase of 2,550mm, while the ground clearance stands at 210mm. It will have a kerb weight of 1190kg, which is 100kgs higher than the 3-door Sierra.
The 5-door Suzuki Jimny was originally planned to be unveiled at the 2021 Tokyo Motor Show, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The SUV will be introduced in 2022. In India, the Jimny could be called the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. However, official announcement is yet to be made.
The SUV will receive few changes in terms of styling. It is expected to get a redesigned front grille with a single horizontal slat replacing the current five-slot vertical setup. Suzuki will also give a mild facelift to the existing 3-door Jimny.
