Maruti Suzuki Jimny is surely one of the much-awaited new SUV launches of the next year. While the company showcased its 3-door version at the 2020 Auto Expo, it will bring in the 5-door version of the off-road SUV. The 5-door Maruti Jimny will make its India debut at the 2023 Auto Expo in January, followed by its launch in the first quarter of FY23-24. Ahead of its official unveiling, the company has begun testing the vehicle in the country.
The 5-door Maruti Jimny will be 300mm longer than its 3-door version. Its wheelbase will also be stretched by 300mm. The off-road SUV will measure 3850mm in length, 1645mm in width and 1730mm in height with a wheelbase of 2550mm.
Under the hood, the off-road SUV is likely to feature the brand’s 1.5L K15C Dualjet engine with both manual (5-speed) and automatic (6-speed) gearbox options. The spotted test mule was heavily camouflaged featuring sporty alloy wheels with red highlights. One can notice the spare wheel mounted on its tailgate. Unlike the globally sold model that has 7-inch infotainment system, the India-spec new Maruti Jimny is likely to come with the larger 9-inch touchscreen unit. It will support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Features such as cruise control, automatic AC unit, a digital instrument cluster, height adjustable driver’s seat, hill hold assist, LED headlamps, LED DRLs and LED taillamps are expected to be offered on the model lineup.
Once launched, the 5-door Maruti Jimny will face challenge from the upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar and 5-door Force Gurkha. Both its arch rival will debut sometime next year. Official details on the upcoming Maruti off-road SUV are likely to be revealed in near future. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
