Following completion of Formula Bharat 2021, Team GTU Motorsports has risen 27 ranks in the global Formula Student Ranking Index. The GTU Motorsports now stand on the 45th spot globally.
At the moment, GTU Motorsports is the only Indian Formula Student Combustion team in the top 50. GTU Motorsports is a student-run extracurricular program devoted to the development of a Formula-style Race Car for the Formula Student competition. GTU Motorsports is unique as it is made up of students from 20 separate colleges affiliated with GTU, the majority of whomare engineering students, from freshers to seniors.
The Team was formed in April 2014, when seven GTU affiliated institutes signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form a team under GTU. This team comprises of seniors with talent and expertise along with junios who bring in creativity and zeal in the advancement of the Team.
The students have developed an open-wheel, single-seater Formula Style race car. This process of developing race car enables students in inculcating skills like manufacturing, design, management, marketing as well as teamwork.
Every year, GTU Motorsports participated in two major events – Formula Bharat and Supra SAE INDIA. The Team said, “Our ambition is to bring GTU Motorsports closest to a “Real-world engineering experience”, not strictly limited to automotive design and racing. Our motto is “Building People, not just Race Cars” and hence we focus on the overall development of an individual joining the team.
