40,000 Bookings For New Hyundai Creta; Diesel Variant High In Demand

Hyundai Motor India has announced that the second-generation Creta has gathered 40,000 bookings so far. The compact SUV went on sale just a few days before the nationwide lockdown. Despite such market situation, the new-generation model managed to achieve impressive booking and sales figures. In fact, the 2020 Hyundai Creta clocked a total sales of 7,114 units in June and became the top-selling SUV in the country. The SUV secured the top spot in month of May outperforming the segment leader – Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.

The carmaker has also confirmed that the diesel variant accounts 67% of the total bookings and petrol and turbo-petrol models have 33% and 21% contribution respectively. The premium compact SUV lineup comes in 5 trims – E, EX, S, SX & SX(O) – and three engine options. The engine setup includes a 113bhp, 1.5L petrol with iVT automatic gearbox, a 138bhp, 1.4L GDI turbo-petrol with a 7-speed DCT gearbox and a 113bhp, 1.5L diesel with a 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard across the lineup.

Talking about Hyundai’s future plan, the South Korean carmaker is working on the 7-seater version of the Creta that was recently spotted testing. The company filed a trademark application for the name ‘Alcazar’ that will be used for a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). Reports suggest it might the production name of the 7-seater Creta. Expected to lunch in early 2021, the new 7-seater SUV from Hyundai will take head-to-head against the upcoming Tata Gravitas.

The company has planned to launch the new-generation Hyundai i20 this year. The premium hatchback will receive comprehensive cosmetic and feature upgrades along with a new set of engines. There will be three BS6-compliant powertrains including a 99bhp, 1.0L turbo-petrol, a 82bhp, 1.2L naturally-aspirated petrol and a 99bhp, 1.5L diesel. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
