4 Upcoming SUVs That Will Challenge Creta & Seltos

The two popular SUVs, the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos will receive major changes in the next few months. While the new Creta will arrive in early 2024, the updated Seltos is reportedly to be launched before the end of this year. The current models are still ruling the chart and sit on the top in the list of top selling midsize SUVs. However, this could change in the future as Honda, Tata and Mahindra also plan to introduce their mid-sized SUVs in our market.

Honda has officially announced plans to introduce a new mid-sized SUV in the country by mid-2023. The new model will be based on the 5th gen City platform and will rival the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. It will be the brand’s new global model and will be exported to select international markets. The new model will be offered with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder i-VTEC petrol engine that also powers the City. A new report claims that the new SUV could also receive a new 1.0L turbo petrol engine. It will also receive a new 1.5-litre petrol + e:HEV hybrid tech.

Tata Motors will launch the production version of the Curvv SUV Coupe in the country in 2024. The SUV Coupe will be based on the new GEN 2 platform, which is basically the heavily modified ALFA platform. It will come with ICE and electric powertrain options. The new model will be powered by a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged gasoline direct injection (TGDi) engine that produces 125PS and 225Nm of torque. It is likely to be offered with a 6-speed manual and a dual-clutch automatic gearbox options. The diesel version will share the 1.5L turbo diesel engine with the Nexon. The EV version of the SUV Coupe is expected to receive a larger 40kWh battery pack with a range over 400kms.

Renault has officially announced to launch the next-gen Duster SUV in our market by 2024-25. In fact, the SUV has been caught testing on foreign soil. The third-gen Duster will be designed and developed on the heavily localised Renault-Nissan alliance’s CMF-B platform. This architecture will also underpin a new 7-seater SUV, which will be positioned against the Safari and the XUV700. This platform will be future-proof & will be compliant with existing & upcoming safety norms. The new Duster will initially be launched with a petrol engine, and hybrid & EV will join the line-up in future. It will also come with AWD setup.

Mahindra will bring back the XUV500 nameplate with an all-new mid-sized SUV. To be positioned below the XUV700, the next-gen XUV500 will measure around 4.3-4.4 meters in length. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and others in the mid-sized SUV category. The new model will be based on the XUV300 platform and will come with front-wheel-drive setup as standard. It is likely to be offered with 1.5-litre turbo petrol and turbo diesel engine options.
