4 Upcoming New Maruti Suzuki SUVs In The Next 2 Years

Despite COVID-19 pandemic and rising competition, Maruti Suzuki has managed to acquire significant market share. The entry-level car segment has received excellent response in past few months, as post pandemic Indians opting for personal mobility. In order to further boost sales, MSIL is now planning to introduce around 4 new SUVs in the Indian market. The company will introduce sub-4 meter SUVs, crossover and mid-sized SUV.

1. Next-gen Maruti Vitara Brezza

Maruti Suzuki is readying the next-gen Vitara Brezza, which is rumoured to be launched in the third quarter of 2021 (Before Diwali). The new model is expected to retain the rugged, squared-off and upright stance, and will have boxy shape and spacious cabin for 3 adults. It is likely to be based on the Suzuki’s lightweight HEARTECT platform, which also underpins the Baleno and the Ertiga. The SUV is benefitted with several new systems including connected car tech and advanced safety systems.

The new model will be powered by the 1.5-litre K15B, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol, which will be offered with the stronger mild-hybrid system.  Maruti Suzuki is likely to add larger battery and a more powerful electric motor to achieve higher fuel efficiency. In the current form, this engine produces 104bhp and 138Nm of torque. It is also likely to receive a BSVI compliant 1.5-litre diesel engine.

2. 5-Door Suzuki Jimny

Maruti Suzuki will introduce the locally developed Jimny off-roader by july-2022. Codenamed YWD, the new 5-door Jimny will be developed for the Indian markets. To be sold through NEXA dealership network, the new 5-door Jimny is likely to be called the new generation Maruti Gyspy. It is likely to be based on the Jimny Sierra, which is slightly bigger than the regular model. The India-spec Maruti Jimny 5-door will be powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that also powers the Vitara Brezza and the S-Cross. This engine is capable of producing 103bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. A four-wheel-drive system is expected to come as standard. Both manual and automatic gearbox options are likely to be on offer.

3. Maruti Crossover

MSIL is also developing a new compact crossover, which will be positioned against the Tata Nexon. The new crossover will be based on the Baleno hatchback. Codenamed ‘YTB’. the new model will be designed as a coupe SUV or a mini crossover. The Baleno’s base will help MSIL to save production cost and time spend on developing a brand new product. It is likely to be powered by a 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine with mild hybrid system. The company could also introduce the 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine.

4. Maruti mid-sized SUV

Maruti-Toyota JV is also developing a mid-sized SUV, which will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. The new SUV is rumoured to be based on the Toyota’s DNGA platform that underpins the Toyota Raize and the Daihatsu Rocky. It will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi facility in plant 2, which will be managed by Maruti Suzuki. The new mid-sized SUV is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with a mild hybrid system. The JV is also reportedly working on a new turbocharged petrol engine, which could be offered with the mid-sized SUV. This engine is likely to be the turbo unit of the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that powers the Swift, Baleno and the Dzire.
