4 Upcoming New Compact SUVs In 2022-23 – Vitara, New Creta

A range of new compact SUVs will be launched in the Indian market in the next few months. In this article, we talk about the top 4 new compact SUVs to be launched in the country in the next 1 year –

1. Toyota Hyryder – Launch in August

Japanese automaker, Toyota is all set to launch the new Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV in the country in August 2022. The company has confirmed that the production of the SUV will commence from August at its Bidadi based manufacturing unit in Karnataka. Interested buyers can pre-book the SUV online or at authorised dealership by paying a token amount of Rs 25,000.

The new Toyota Hyryder is based on Suzuki’s Global-C platform that underpins the Brezza, S-Cross and the global Vitara. The SUV will be offered with two engine options – a 1.5-litre K15C dual-jet petrol with a mild hybrid setup and a 1.5-litre strong hybrid system. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The hybrid version will only come with e-CVT unit.

2. Maruti Suzuki Vitara – August

Maruti Suzuki will introduce the new Vitara SUV in the country on July 20, 2022. It is also based on the Global-C platform that underpins the Urban Cruiser HyRyder. The new model will share most of the components, features and mechanical bits with the Toyota’s sibling. However, it will come with significant design changes and different interior layout to keep things fresh in the market.

The new Suzuki Vitara will be offered with two engine options – a 101bhp, 1.5-litre petrol with mild hybrid and a 115bhp, 1.5-litre petrol with a strong hybrid tech. The mild hybrid unit will come with 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic, the strong hybrid model will only come with e-CVT.

3. Hyundai Creta Facelift

If media reports are to be believed, Hyundai will introduce the new Creta facelift at the 2023 Auto Expo in January. However, Hyundai is yet to make an official announcement on the same. The new Creta is already on sale in select international markets. It comes with an all-new front design that’s inspired from the new Tucson. The SUV gets Hyundai’s new ‘parametric grille’ with neatly integrated LED DRLs, new bumper with slimmer and wider air-inlet, revised tailgate design with sharp creases and new LED tail-lights. Hyundai has also removed the LED bar that connects the tail-lights, offering much cleaner design compared to the outgoing model.

Inside the cabin, the new Creta could receive updated infotainment system with revised Hyundai’s Bluelink connected car tech. The SUV is also expected to receive ADAS with features like autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and others. It will be offered with 3 engine options – a 113bhp, 1.5L NA petrol, a 113bhp, 1.5L turbo-diesel and a 138bhp, 1.4L turbocharged petrol. Transmission options are likely to be similar to the existing model.

4. Kia Seltos Facelift

Kia has recently unveiled the new Seltos facelift in international markets. The SUV will make its first public appearance at the Busan Motor Show in Korea. The new model is expected to be launched in the country by the end of 2022 or early next year. In terms of styling, the new Seltos gets new headlamps, revised front bumper and more pronounced air dam surrounded by a faux aluminium skid plate. It comes with new alloys, new tail-lamps with L-shaped LED signature and revised bumper with updated faux skid plate.

It will come with an updated 10.25-inch infotainment system, new switches for HVAC controls and new features. The carmaker is reported to equip the new Seltos facelift with the ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite. It is likely to come with the same 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, 1.4L turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel engine options. Transmission choices will also remain unchanged – i.e. a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic and a 7-speed DCT automatic.
