Micro SUVs are all set to become the next space for top automakers in India. Tata Motors has already showcased its SUV concept, which will soon enter into the sub-4 meter SUV segment. Brands like Hyundai and Renault are also readying their respective small SUVs for the Indian market. Here is a list of top new upcoming SUVs under 8 lakh in India –

Tata HBX

Tata HBX Micro SUV

The first model in our list of upcoming SUVs under 8 lakh is the Tata HBX, which was showcased in pre-production avatar at the 2020 Auto Expo. The company has already confirmed that the small SUV will be launched in the first quarter of 2021. It will be the brand’s second model to be based on the new ALFA modular platform, first being the Altroz premium hatchback. The new model will sit below the Nexon compact SUV and will rival the likes of the Maruti Ignis and the Hyundai Santro. The company has already started testing the new micro SUV, which shows that the production model looks largely identical to the concept.

The Tata HBX micro SUV will be designed on the company’s new IMPACT 2.0 design language, which we have already seen on the Harrier and the Altroz. The Tata HBX measures 3,860mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,880mm in height. It will be offered with a single petrol engine option, which is a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Revotron engine producing 85bhp of power and 110Nm of torque. Both manual and AMT gearbox options are likely to be on offer.

Hyundai AX

Upcoming Hyundai Cars AX Concept

Korean automaker, Hyundai is also developing a micro SUV, internally called the Hyundai AX. The new model will be the brand’s most affordable SUV globally. It will be based on the Santro’s platform and will be positioned as an entry-level model in the Hyundai’s line-up. The micro SUV is most likely to be positioned against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and the upcoming Tata HBX based micro SUV. The Hyundai AX is reported to come with a 1.0L, 3-cylinder petrol engine. The carmaker might also use the Santro’s 1.1L 4-cylinder engine with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed Smart Auto AMT gearbox.

Expected Price – Rs 4 lakh – Rs 7 lakh

Renault HBC

Renault HBC Launch

Buoyed by positive response for Triber MPV, Renault is now readying an all-new sub-4 meter SUV for the Indian market. Codenamed HBC, the new compact SUV is rumoured to be called the Renault Kiger. It will be based on the CMF-A+ modular platform, which also underpins the Triber. The upcoming compact SUV will be cheaper than most of its rivals. In India, it will challenge the likes of the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and others. The compact SUV will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is capable of producing 99bhp of power and 160Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic.

Nissan Magnite

Nissan Magnite Compact SUV Teased

Next model in our list of upcoming SUVs under 8 lakh is the Nissan Magnite, which is scheduled to be launched in mid-2020. The new model will be the brand’s most affordable car in India. It will be based on the CMF-A+ platform, which will also underpin the upcoming Renault HBC SUV. Nissan has already released a couple of teaser images of the Magnite, which reveals the design details. The overall design of the SUV will be inspired by the Kicks and other global Nissan SUVs. Codenamed EM2, the upcoming compact SUV will rival the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon and the upcoming Kia Sonet. It will be powered by a 99bhp, 1.0L 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox.

Launch – Mid-2020
Expected Price – Rs 6.5 lakh – Rs 9 lakh
