4 Upcoming Mahindra SUVs With Petrol & Diesel Powertrains

Mahindra has recently launched two new SUVs – the Thar RWD (Rear-Wheel-Drive) and the new XUV400 electric. The company has announced to launch 5 more born electric SUVs in our market in the next 3-4 years. The brand’s first Born Electric SUV will be the XUV e8, which will be launched by the end of 2024. Not just EVs, Mahindra also plans to launch multiple ICE powered SUVs in our market.

Here is a list of top 4 upcoming Mahindra SUVs with petrol and diesel engine options –

1. Mahindra Thar 5-door

5-Door Thar

Mahindra is testing the LWB version of the Thar lifestyle SUV on the Indian roads. The 5-door Thar will be more practical than the 3-door model. It is likely to be launched before the end of this year, most probably around the festive season. The new Thar 5-door model will come with a hard top variant with removable panels. Adding to it, the fixed roof model will have a single-pane sunroof.

The 5-door Mahindra will be based on the new Scorpio-N’s ladder-frame chassis that’s made of high-strength steel. It could also share the pentalink rear suspension with the new Scorpio-N. The wheelbase of the SUV will be increased to create more space in the second-row; however, it could impact its off-road capabilities with lower ramp-over angle. The 5-door Thar will be offered with a 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel engine, which also powers the 3-door version. This engine could be tuned for higher power and torque. Both manual and automatic gearbox will be on offer.

2. Bolero Neo Plus

Mahindra is testing the longer version of the Bolero Neo SUV in India. Called the Bolero Neo Plus, the new SUV will be offered in two seating layouts – 7 and 9-seats. This model is 400mm longer than the Bolero Neo; however, the wheelbase remains unchanged. The SUV will receive some design changes in the form of a new mesh grille with vertical chrome slats, a rear tailgate mounted spare wheel, a trapezoidal air dam and wraparound taillights. The Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus 7-seater version will have bench-type seats in the third row and the 9-seater model will come with jump seats. It will be powered by a 2.2L mHawk diesel engine offering power worth 94bhp in Economy mode and 120bhp in Power mode.

3. Next-gen Bolero

Mahindra Bolero facelift

In 2021, Mahindra had announced to launch 9 new SUVs in our market in 2026. The company has also confirmed that the next-gen Bolero is currently in the works. The next-gen Bolero is expected to be launched sometime in 2024. It will be based on the new ladder-on-frame chassis that underpins the Thar and the Scorpio-N. The new model will continue to be offered as a practical people mover; however, it will get more modern features. It is most likely to retain the current old-school rugged profile. The next Bolero is likely to be powered by the 2.2L turbo diesel engine that powers the Thar. It could also get the Thar RWD’s 1.5L turbo diesel engine.

The company will revive the XUV500 nameplate; however, it will be positioned below the XUV700 in terms of size and segment. It will measure around 4.3 meters in length and will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and others in its category. The SUV will be based on the modified version of the XUV300 platform.  It is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol and diesel engine options.
