4 Toyota Cars To Be Launched In India; New SUV, MPV

Japanese automaker, Toyota has reported its first ever loss in India in five years. The main reason behind the loss is the COVID-19 related restrictions as well as lack of products in the highly competitive market. However, things are likely to change as Toyota plans to launch 4 new cars in the country in the next 1 year.

1. Toyota Rumion

Toyota is already selling the Glanza hatchback and the Urban Cruiser based on the Baleno and the Vitara Brezza in our market. The next re-badged model will be the Toyota Rumion MPV, which is based on the Ertiga MPV. In fact, the Toyota Rumion name has already been trademarked in India. The MPV has recently been launched in South Africa.

The new Toyota Rumion MPV has received some changes to differentiate itself from the Maruti Ertiga. It gets a different grille with a Toyota badge. Inside the cabin, the new Rumion gets black interiors with wooden trim. Powering the MPV is a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 105bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic.

2. Toyota Belta

The Toyota Belta mid-sized sedan will be positioned against the likes of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid and the Volkswagen Vento. It will replace the Yaris sedan, which was discontinued earlier this year. The Toyota Belta will be powered by the same 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 104bhp of maximum power and 138Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic.

The CNG version is likely to receive a 2.7L, 4-cylinder petrol engine paired to a CNG kit. The gasoline engine churns out 166PS of power and 245Nm of torque. The CNG kit will offer slightly lower power and torque than the gasoline model. It is likely to be offered in manual gearbox version only.
